Cillian Murphy could star in Far Cry 7, following on from Giancarlo Esposito's turn as the villain in Far Cry 6.
This comes from a cryptic message shared by YouTuber j0nathan, who has a track record of Ubisoft leaks, including details on Assassin's Creed Mirage that were later proven true. In j0nathan's latest post, they share a few images that seem to be related to Far Cry 7, including an image of recent Oscar-winner, Cillian Murphy.
In the post, j0nathan shares four images with the caption, "If nothing changes by then". One of the pictures is of Cillian Murphy, another is a stick of dynamite with a 72-hour countdown, one is a huge crab, and the final one is the number seven.
The seven is almost definitely there to confirm that the tweet is about Far Cry 7. This is backed up by the 72-hour countdown, which likely refers to the previous rumour that Far Cry 7's story will be on a time limit. It's said that in-game this time limit will be 72 hours, but will be 24 hours in real-time.
Of course, the image of the Oppenheimer star is being interpreted by many as meaning that Murphy will play a character in the next Far Cry, although there are other possibilities.
Since sharing the tweet, j0nathan has replied to someone who theorised that Cillian Murphy's image is there because the player character is called Murphy - not because the actor will actually be in the game. J0nathan isn't giving anything away but didn't shoot this idea down either, so it's very possible that this is the case.
However, getting an actor who doesn't typically do video game work in a Far Cry game has been done before - twice, in fact. Michael Mando played Vaas Montenegro in both Far Cry 3 and an expansion for Far Cry 6. The base game for Far Cry 6 also famously features Giancarlo Esposito as Anton Castillo.
It was previously reported that two Far Cry games are in development , with one being multiplayer-focused. This leak, however, seems to concern the next mainline entry.
So, while Cillian Murphy would be a huge get for Ubisoft, seeing a big actor in the next Far Cry game wouldn't be a surprise. Given the casting for previous games, it seems pretty likely that he'll play a villain too, although Ubisoft might want to mix it up this time.
Whatever the case, Ubisoft hasn't given us any details on Far Cry 7 just yet, so we only have these leaks to go on. However, with the last game launching in 2021, it's very possible that we'll finally get some details on the sequel soon.
