This magical co-op roguelike looks like a cozy Hogwarts Legacy, and it's out next month

The Biden-Harris administration announced the first series of tech hubs that are getting funded as part of the CHIPS and Science Act signed into law last summer.

Salt and Sacrifice, the follow-up to Ska Studios' enormously enjoyable 2D Soulslike Salt and Sanctuary, is making the jump to Switch and Steam (following a period of Epic Games Store exclusivity) on 7th November.

When Hogwarts Legacy launched earlier this year, it was available across multiple platforms with one notable exception: Nintendo Switch. Since the initial announcement, the release date for the Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy has been pushed back enough times that some of us began to wonder whether we’d ever see a handheld version of this wizarding world installment.

Hogwarts Legacy kicked the year off as one of its earlier major releases with its February launch on current-gen consoles and PC, which was followed by the open world action RPG coming to last-gen consoles in May. Soon, it will be opening the gates for an even wider audience with its long-awaited Switch release, and less than a month until the port’s launch, WB Games has released a first batch of screenshots to offer a glimpse of what the game will look like on Nintendo’s platform.

Upcoming RPG In Stars and Time has a particularly clever spin on the classic setup of a band of adventurers fighting against a great evil. As the spirited, rag-tag party of misfits journey to face off against the big bad plaguing the land, they each fall in the climactic battle, one by one, in humiliating defeat. However, the main protagonist, Siffrin, is revived shortly after, brought back to the beginning of the doomed grand adventure as the only one with any memories of what occurred. But now, the hero has a faint idea of how to do things right the next time.

If the debut trailer is anything to go by, chaos is on the menu for Starnaut. Developer Crim announced the spacey adventure for PC, with Early Access to kick off in February 2024. The roguelike action game has you playing as an astronaut on a solo space expedition that lands them in the multiverse. From there you’ll be blasting “endless incoming enemies” that can be deceptively cute and drop what seems to be an equally endless number of coins. 

This week is a choose-your-own-adventure for TV premieres: Are you interested in a new murder mystery, complete with a time-hopping twist? You’ll want to check out Netflix’s Bodies then. Do you want to continue rolling through spooky season with some haunted delights, either fictional (The Burning Girls) or real-life (Living for the Dead)?

The PC and Switch versions of Sociable Soccer 24 – the arcade football game from the creator of Sensible Soccer – will be released on 16th November, 2023.

I'll admit I passed on the original House Flipper craze because I'm not one for job sim games. But I really like to build and decorate houses, which, it turns out, House Flipper 2 is totally prepared to support. House Flipper dev Frozen District has already announced that the sequel would have a sandbox mode, but now it's been shown off in a new trailer. I'm all in this time.

I was mixed on Dambusters' Dead Island 2 - I thought the combat had flair but not much depth, loved the game's decadently disastrous Los Angeles, but hated how exploration boiled down to nosing around for crafting materials. The game's first story DLC expansion, Haus, amps up the weirdness of the environments by transporting you to a "surreal, psycho-horror dreamscape" in blissful Malibu.

Perhaps one of the most exciting features of Hogwarts Legacy is the fact that you can create your very own magical character to live out your dreams as a student of witchcraft and wizardry. For a variety of reasons, however, not everyone wants to spend their spellcasting time at a certain famous school and may be looking for other games to scratch a similar itch. Plus, can you ever really have enough when it comes to cozy witchy RPGs set at magic schools?

Alien Hominid developer The Behemoth has confirmed that its two upcoming titles, Alien Hominid HD and Alien Hominid Invasion, are both going to be released right at the start of next month, on November 1.
