EA's The Sims is coming to the silver screen.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that the project is being produced by Margot Robbie's production firm, LuckyChap, as well as Roy Lee and Miri Yoon from Vertigo Entertainment. Sims publisher Electronic Arts is unsurprisingly going to be involved in the film's production and creative direction.
Loki director Kate Herron is heading up The Sims movie, and is co-writing the screenplay with Briony Redman of Doctor Who fame.
The Sims started life in 2000 as a spin-off of the SimCity franchise. Since then, there have been four numbered entries in the series to date, as well as countless expansions. The most recent mainline entry, The Sims 4, launched in 2014 and has sold over 70 million copies – a record for the series.
A film adaptation of The Sims has long been in the pipeline. Back in 2007, EA sold the movie rights to 20th Century Fox, but in 2019 it was reportedly cancelled by Disney after its acquisition of Fox.
