The Scottish Games Awards 2023 winners have been revealed

The Game Awards 2023 is nearly here, which means it’s also the season of new game reveals. The show is famous for featuring some of the most significant announcements of the year, rivaling the status that E3 once held. The Game Awards has garnered tens of millions of viewers in recent years, making it one of the best times for studios to show off their titles to players. It only makes sense that this year will continue that trend, and it stands to be one of the most exciting years yet, with tons of high-profile games on deck for release in 2024.

Metacritic has revealed what would happen if The Game Awards winners were decided by Metacritic score, rather than a jury vote.

The Game Awards 2023 nominations are now out in the wild. Two of the biggest titles this year, Baldur's Gate 3 and the more recent Alan Wake II lead the pack with a whopping eight nods each, including Game of the Year. Despite being considered one of the best years for gaming, the show host and organiser Geoff Keighley is sticking to his rule of including only six names for the prestigious award. The remaining GOTY contenders include Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Resident Evil 4 remake, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The latter two were big hits during the first half of the year, with Zelda players showing off their mechanical creations in the lands of Hyrule, while the RE4 PC players messed around with sultry mods.

The nominees for every category in The Game Awards 2023 have been revealed. There will be 31 total awards given, and the nominations have narrowed each category down to five or six potential recipients. The Game Awards is perhaps the video game industry's most lucrative honors ceremony, with over 100 million viewers tuning in for the livestream in 2022. Although the show is highly anticipated for the game reveals and trailers it promises to bring each year, its prizes are ultimately the reason for the occasion.

Earlier today, Geoff Keighley revealed the list of nominees for the 2023 Game Awards airing on December 7. And as always, the list of games are dominated by juggernauts that released closer to the start of the year and as recent as last month. 

Each year, millions tune in to watch the Game Awards, an event that celebrates and showcases creative brilliance in the video game industry across multiple categories. But everyone’s got their eyes set on the main event: The Game of the Year.

The Game Awards air on December 7 at 4:30 PT/7:30 ET live from the Peacock Theater and host Geoff Keighley revealed the full list of categories and nominees, including the coveted Game of the Year.
