Last week, French outlet Dealabs reported new details about EA Sports and Codemasters' upcoming WRC game. The article shared information on the game's release date, pricing, and editions you can purchase, as well as what will appear on the front cover. Assuming it's all legit, it pointed to a proper reveal in the near future, and now, the game will finally be shown tomorrow, 5th September 2023.
This rally racing sim — presumably named EA Sports WRC 23 — will be the first officially licensed title from both EA and Codemasters. The licence switched hands after many years under Nacon (formerly Bigben Interactive), where developer KT Racing hammered out a series of pretty dang good rally games.
Fans of the motorsport are excited for Codemasters to have a crack at the licence, however; it's been making excellent, unofficial rally games for a long time, with the two DiRT Rally titles being a relatively recent highlight. With its expertise under the bonnet, this new racer ought to be great.
Again, the reveal trailer will premiere tomorrow, 5th September, at 8am PDT / 11am EDT / 4pm BST. Are you excited to see what's next for WRC games? Don't cut in the comments section below.
Having grown up alongside PlayStation, Stephen has developed an eclectic taste in video games and a wide knowledge of the medium, from small indie gems to the biggest AAA blockbusters. Ever hopeful that the Burnout series makes a miraculous return.
Obvious day one purchase as it's a game with four wheels in it but can I mention the lack of terrain deformation there?
Looks awsome
£3.59 — Subaru Impreza WRC 95
£3.59 — Mitsubishi WRC 2006
etc etc
Hoping for PSVR2 support but keeping expectations very low, given EA's recent track record with F1 23. Still have fond memories of DIRT Rally on PSVR1.
@Gooseman42 Yeah, I was really hoping F1 was going to get it. Would’ve been amazing.
Back in the hands of Codemasters — I'm predicting Colin McRae levels of playability married with EA's unique talent for… in-game currencies/micro-transactions.
This should be good!
PSRV2 hopefully les go !
This game needs VR2 but EA has no virtual reality games.
Frankly, I’m stoked for this news.
The things I’m looking forward to are better dust trails (the teaser above looks pretty solid) and I’d also love for your co-driver’s voice to sort of stutter a bit as you hit bumps or go over rocky roads. Those two things would make these games feel truly next-gen.
I wasn’t a fan of the team management stuff and largely ignored it in the last 2-3 entries. I understand why it was included and it felt like a natural progression for the series but because I was able to ignore it and it wasn’t forced I feel like it was otherwise executed properly.
I just want a rally game

Football season is in full swing and we are pleased to announce the new PS5 Console – EA Sports FC 24 Bundle. Having spent a good few hours with The First Descendant on PS5 — ahead of its open beta release later this month — we're happy to report that this free-to-play shooter seems to have a solid base to build upon. Very reminiscent of Destiny in terms of structure, we didn't quite have time to dig into finer details, but the gameplay clicked almost immediately thanks to buttery smooth controls and a near constant supply of loot (even if we did end up spending a touch too much time rummaging through equipment menus).
In arguably a dazzling demonstration of the new Apple iPhone 15 Pro’s raw horsepower, the PS5 and PS4 console title Death Stranding Director’s Cut is coming natively to the device. No, that’s not a typing error: the entirety of Kojima Productions’ seminal hiking sim will be available to play in the palm of your hands – as will Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Village, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Bonkers!
Another State of Play showcase from Sony has now been and gone, this time sharing news for previously revealed indie and third-party games. A fairly low-key affair for saying it was only the second general State of Play livestream of 2023, but there were a few announcements and reveals to take note of.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth won't allow players to import their Final Fantasy 7 Remakesave files.
Electronic Arts has published a list of the top-rated EA Sports FC 24 players.
EA has published its Ultimate Team top ratings for the upcoming EA Sports FC 24, which mixes male and female players for the first time.
It’s a new era for EA Sports’ football games, with the long-running FIFA series no more. EA FC 24, due out later in September, is EA Sports’ first non-FIFA game, and with it comes a fresh assessment of the real-life footballers whose virtual counterparts star in the game.
The ESA (Entertainment Software Association), the organisation behind E3, has parted ways with ReedPop after 2023's show failed to get off the ground. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the two parties had signed a multi-year contract to collaborate on the industry exhibition in an attempt to bring it back to its former glory. However, with this year's show a no-go, the companies have made a «mutual decision» to cease the partnership.
FromSoftware is still struggling to lock its games to 60 frames-per-second, it seems. The Japanese developer has a history of not quite reaching its technical targets, with beloved games like Bloodborne and even the much more recent Elden Ring exhibiting performance flaws — particularly on consoles. And it's the same old story with Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, according to the new analysis from Digital Foundry.
EA Sports UFC 5 will launch on 27th October on PS5, and it’ll be the first M-rated release in the series. That’s because upgrades to the Frostbite Engine mean the publisher is really pushing the realism in this version of the game, resulting in some of the most realistic body damage ever made. Fighters will now visibly cut and bruise in a variety of locations, with damage directly affecting gameplay (a cut to the right eye will impair vision and make you vulnerable, for example).
