On the run-up to Minecraft Live, the 2023 mob vote is slowly being teased to us. The first mob was revealed to be the crab, and now they’ve teased their second mob in the lineup. The armadillo. Is this better than the crab?
The mob vote has been a controversial long-standing tradition that has allowed the game to benefit from Allays, Glow Squids, Phantoms, and Sniffers, at the cost of many other mobs. Mojang will slowly reveal the three contenders during the lead to the mob vote, allowing players to get excited about the potential content for the game. This year, we’ve been shown the crab, and we’ve been shown the Armadillo.
The Armadillo, according to Tiny Jens, will ‘drop’ scutes, which can be crafted into wolf armor. Wolf armor is something that has been long-requested by fans, so to see this as a potential inclusion will really tip the balance in the Armadillo’s favor.
It is unclear how the Armadillo will drop these scutes, but it’s suggested that they’ll drop them passively and the creatures don’t need to be hunted down for them. Although if they were killed, I’d imagine they would drop some more.

The Armadillos were also shown to curl up into tiny blocky balls, but it’s unsure the behavior or nature of this mechanic.
The Armadillo will spawn in the Savanah, and potentially other hot areas, like the Badlands or the Desert.
I personally think that the Armadillo will be the more popular opinion between the Armadillo and the Crab, as most players love their Minecraft dogs. And being able to protect them further is something that most people will want. Although the Crab is cute, amusing, and is also useful, there is less sentimental value attached to its item, and players have been completely fine with the placement range so far.

Cult of the Lamb and Wizard with a Gun publisher Devolver Digital took to X (formerly Twitter) last night to share that it had made a donation to United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) providing aid to Palestinian refugees. The publisher shared the UNRWA link and encouraged others to do the same, if they are able. The donation amount was not listed.
Disney and developer Dlala Studios announced Disney Illusion Island in 2022, and it immediately shot up high on my list of games to play this year. It did so for several reasons – its beautifully realized visuals, top-notch voice acting, and, of course, the potential to play as some of my favorite characters in a Metroidvania-esque adventure. That wasn't all, though; The snippets of composer David Housden's score in the reveal trailer indicated this team was on to something.
The controversial Minecraft mob vote is finally over with armadillo claiming victory over penguin and crab, but that hasn't stopped the still-mounting backlash.

As one of the biggest video games in history, Minecraft has maintained a steady stream of content to keep old fans happy while enticing newcomers. Its annual Mob Vote also means players can decide which creature gets added next. However, some want to see this get tossed into lava.
Minecraft players have launched a petition demanding developer Mojang ends its annual mob vote — in which the community gets to vote on a new creature to be added to the game — saying the process 'leaves fantastic ideas on the cutting room floor' and only serves to highlight Minecraft's anaemic content release cycle.
When I heard about this year's Minecraft mob vote, I thought to myself, «Gosh, that sounds like fun! Some discussion, some debate, a little bit of good-natured trash talk, and at the end of the day, a new creature for players to enjoy.» Dear readers, I was wrong. A big chunk of the Minecraft community is not happy about the democratic process, and a petition calling on players to boycott the vote has now surpassed an astounding 300,000 signatures.
