The Wii was a breath of fresh air when Nintendo launched it in 2006. The video game giant’s commitment to bucking the trend had been clear for years, but its previous console, the GameCube, hadn’t paid off. Despite its cute design and emphasis on fun, its unique game discs and lack of online multiplayer meant that it struggled against Microsoft and Sony. With Wii, Nintendo’s creative instinct returned, and it got the contrary bit right.
Wii’s motion controls and emphasis on varied gameplay appealed to all types of gamers and caught rivals by surprise. Its name was odd but straightforward. The inclusion of Miis from the start predicted social moves and it served up gaming moments that were far more varied and fun than many high-performance battles on PlayStation or Xbox. That helped Nintendo’s console storm ahead, beating PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with 101 million units sold and setting the agenda for consoles to come.
So, what were the best games on Nintendo’s innovative console? If you’re dusting off the console and ensuring your remote wrist strap is attached, we’ve ranked the 15 best games released on Nintendo Wii.

In addition, this final entry plays down the supernatural elements seen elsewhere in the series and the more grounded narrative is surprisingly gripping. It didn’t sell well, but now has a reputation as a serious cult classic.
The excellent Sin & Punishment was quietly one of the best Nintendo 64 games, though didn’t officially make it outside Japan until it was added to the Nintendo Switch Online’s N64 collection. Thankfully the same fate didn’t befall its sequel, which is one of the best rail-shooters you can play. As you’d expect the gameplay is a perfect fit for WiiMote and Nunchuk, though also works well with more typical gamepads. This feels like a no-brainer for a HD Switch port, so we’re still holding out hope it’ll reappear one day.
Yes, it sounds like shovelware, but Boom Blox Bash Party really is one of the most fun times you can have with friends and a near-perfect implementation of the Wii’s controls. And, in a truly bizarre twist, the game is directed by none other than Steven Spielberg! When it was announced the famed director would be working with
