A Stellar Blade fan has discovered one settings change that could potentially improve the game for a lot of players. The recent release of Stellar Blade on PlayStation 5 has attracted a ton of hype, but there's one element that has left some fans underwhelmed, although this can be solved with a single change in the settings.
Upon its release, Stellar Blade has been met with high critical praise. While a lot of the attention drawn to the game pre-release was centered on the appearance of its protagonist, there's no doubt that Stellar Blade has also proven it has a lot to offer in the gameplay department. It takes strong inspiration from Soulslikes, with a lower difficulty ceiling to remove some of the frustration commonly associated with the genre. While it joins the club of stellar PlayStation 5 exclusives, it isn't perfect, but one of its biggest problems could be solved in the settings menu.
A post on the Stellar Blade subreddit by user TomatilloExtreme underlined some issues with the game's English dub, describing it as «godawful,» and pointing out that it had been highlighted by several critics for lacking emotion throughout the game. Their suggestion to solve this is simple — use the Korean dub of the game with English subtitles. According to TomatilloExtreme, this results in the actors showing «a bigger range of emotion,» although this will naturally prove subjective for every player. Some in the thread pointed out that Stellar Blade's Eve has a strong English voice actor, with most agreeing it's the rest of the cast that leaves a little to be desired.
Gamers choosing to play with foreign-language dubs isn't totally uncommon. Sometimes, the English voiceover just doesn't fit the setting. A common example of this in the past was Assassin's Creed Unity. Set in Paris, the game used strong English accents throughout, and many players instead moved over to the French dub for a more authentic experience. Changing over to the Korean dub probably won't make beating Stellar Bladea more authentic experience in the same regard, but if it could enhance the emotion for some players, it could be worth trying.
With Stellar Blade proving to be an early success, it will be interesting to see how much post-launch support the game receives from developer Shift Up. Stellar Blade added New Game+ on launch day, which is certainly a strong start, but the game has so much potential for more DLC in the future. With such a great base game to work from, hopefully Shift Up delivers going forward.
Stellar Blade is an action-RPG developed by Shift Up and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game follows protagonist Eve as she attempts to save a devastated Earth from invaders called Naytiba.

As the only British baseball fan on Planet Earth, I had one simple mission when I first arrived in Taipei: to choose a local team to support. Taiwan is infatuated with America’s former favourite pastime, and it’s even dedicated a spot on its $1,000 note to a celebrating squad. After much deliberation, I settled on the Rakuten Monkeys for one rather simple, primitive reason: they’d just signed Korean cheerleader Lee Dahye.

With the recent success of Prime Video's series, there's a real allure to returning to and making it feel more like its television counterpart. The show is not based on any of the games before it, instead adapting the world but bringing it to life with different characters and a brand-new story. The series feels like an unapologetic and authentic member of thegaming franchise, but some mods can turn the tables and give the same feel as the TV show.
