A Starfield player has built an impressive recreation of the Serenity from the cult classic sci-fi series Firefly. The build has impressed gamers and its creator has put together a helpful guide on how fans can make one for themselves in Starfield.
Firefly was a short-lived sci-fi show that aired for only one season, between 2002 and 2003. Despite being axed early on, the show acquired enough of a fanbase that it ultimately received a movie, titled Serenity, just two years after the series went off the air. Sadly, the Firefly universe has gone silent since, and controversy surrounding show creator Joss Whedon in recent years may have further dampened the chances of it ever coming back. Fans continue to hold on to hope that the franchise will return in some shape or form, whether as a game or a new TV show, but in the meantime, fans can revisit the humble ship in Bethesda's Starfield.
Starfield's official Twitter account highlighted the Firefly build that was put together by Starshipwright. The recreation is practically flawless, replicating the transport ship's bird and insect qualities nicely. It's far from the most impressive design to take flight in Starfield, but that's the point. The Serenity was never intended to be a hyper-futuristic, sleek ship. A recurring theme in the TV show and movie was that the Firefly-class ship was constantly on the verge of falling apart, more akin to the ships in Cowboy Bebop than those in Star Trek.
Several fans wondered if there was a build guide so that they could create their own Serenity, and for those players, Starshipwright came through. On their own account, they shared how they put the ship together, noting that the ship is a glitch build. Players who want to revisit their own little corner of the Firefly universe can now travel the Starfield universe as Captain Mal.
While fans of the sci-fi show seem delighted at the Firefly build, many pointed out that the game still lacks its Creation Kit months after release. While builds like these can bring a lot of joy to fans, once the Creation Kit finally launches, players could theoretically build a mod that would put even more elements of the Firefly universe into the game. Downloading and installing a mod could also be an easier option than building a ship in-game. The Starfield Creation Kit is supposed to release in 2024, so at the very least, Starfield players won't be left waiting for as long as Firefly fans have.
Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, Starfield is a sci-fi action role-playing game where players interact with multiple factions, engage in combat, customize their main character and ship, as well as explore a universe that features over 100 systems and 1,000 planets.
