Star Wars Outlaws will put players in the role of Kay Vess, an aspiring outlaw looking to make her mark on the criminal underworld by pulling a massive heist against the rising Zerek Besh organization.

The release date for has finally been revealed as part of a new story trailer that showed more of scoundrel Kay Vess' story and the threats she'll be facing across the Outer Rim. Massive Entertainment's open-world title was originally revealed at the June 2023 Xbox Showcase and Ubisoft Forward events with a vague 2024 release window.
As per the trailer — which can be found on Ubisoft's YouTube channel — will launch on August 30, 2024, with pre-orders available now. Those who pre-order the game will receive the Kessel Runner Bonus Pack, which consists of skins for Kay's speeder and starship, The Trailblazer, the latter of which she appears to be stealing during the story trailer. Both vehicles were previously shown in a high-speed chase sequence in ' gameplay footage, which demonstrated how its open-world traversal will work both on land and in space.

Aside from a few releases, such as 2008's movie, 2014's mobile game, the first 2014 short that predated the series, 2022's animated special, and 2023's series on Disney+, doesn't tend to do August releases. Instead, the franchise opts for launches around April or May to coincide with Star Wars Day on May 4th, or later in the year to target the Holiday seasons.
The prequel and original trilogy in particular followed this pattern alongside, being released in May as major Summer blockbusters. Meanwhile, the sequel trilogy and targeted December releases. It's interesting that Ubisoft has opted not to release in a similar window to maximize the Summer break or Holiday season, especially with the game releasing at the tail-end of August. In comparison, the previous AAA game, Respawn Entertainment's launched on April 28 last year, a window that's more expected for the franchise.
With a fresh new story that seems different from others seen in recent games as it focuses on life in the criminal underworld outside the main conflict between the rebels and the Empire, certainly looks promising. Fortunately, with an August release date now confirmed, at least players won't have to wait too long to find out what Kay Vess' journey has in store.
