The Star Wars KOTOR Remake isn't in a good place. So far, we've only seen a short teaser trailer that doesn't really tell us anything about the game. Then, the project was taken away from its previous developer, Aspyr, reportedly over concerns about the game's slow development. Now, as yet another year passes with no KOTOR Remake updates - aside from the announcement trailer being taken down by Sony - many fear that the game has been shelved entirely.
To make matters worse, Embracer Group and Saber have no comment on fears that the game has been cancelled. For whatever reason, the studios won't even confirm to the public that the game hasn't been cancelled, in what is yet another bizarre turn in the remake's troubled development.

Journalist Mike Straw of Insider Gaming confirmed that both companies declined to comment on KOTOR cancellation fears, continuing their policy of silence on the project.
This isn't the first time that the companies have refused to comment on the matter. Back in May, as it was widely reported that the remake might never launch at all, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors dodged a question from an investor on the current status of the KOTOR Remake. This only served to exacerbate fears that it would never see the light of day, as has the recent developments surrounding the trailer's deletion on the PlayStation YouTube channel.
Curiously, Sony has been willing to comment on this, arguing that the trailer's removal doesn't necessarily mean the game has been shelved. Instead, it said the deletion was due to the trailer's use of music in which the licence had expired. This is still quite odd, of course, given that many trailers use licenced music. But at the very least, Sony is willing to answer a question about the remake, while Embracer and Saber remain silent.
Sadly, given recent business moves from Embracer, cancelling the game would hardly come as a surprise. Over the past few weeks, Embracer has enacted mass layoffs in many of the studios that it owns, including Gearbox and Crystal Dynamics. Then, it shut down Volition altogether, unceremoniously ending its 30 years in the industry. With this in mind, Embacer is clearly on a cost-cutting spree, and scrapping a single-player game that has no release window will unfortunately be a very appealing move to the big bosses at Embracer.
In any case, even if it isn't cancelled, we have no idea when the KOTOR Remake will be with us. We know it will be a PS5 console exclusive, but other than that, it remains shrouded in mystery.
