The STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy hasn’t just been announced today, it’s been shadow-dropped straight onto consoles as well! The full trilogy bundle and the individual games are available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The Legends of the Zone bundle is priced at $39.99 / £33.50 including all three games – Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat – or you can pick up each game individually for $19.99 / £9.99 on the Microsoft Store. Very strangely, the PlayStation Store has the full trilogy is currently listed for £15.99.
With the original releases in 2007 and the years after, STALKER was always a very PC-first game. Not only in terms of how hard it could push PCs of the day (and with a greater tolerance for bugginess at the time), but for the gameplay style that was far more accepted on PC instead of console. Of course, STALKER 2 will be coming to Xbox Series X|S as well as PC when it launches later this year on 5th September, and GSC Game Worlds has decided now is the right time to revisit the earlier games.
In a post on Xbox Wire, Microsoft said: “Every element from the original games has been maintained and faithfully ported to console thanks to the hard work of GSC Game World and their partners at Mataboo. This all makes for a great opportunity for Xbox gamers everywhere to get some foundational knowledge of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.’s universe in the lead-up to the launch of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.”
Each game has been ported from PC to consoles in partnership with Mataboo, making UI adjustments, adapting the controls to work on console and more. The version released today is actually an Xbox One native game that can be played via backward compatibility (with enhancements) on Xbox Series X|S. A patch will be released in future to bring further graphical enhancements to the newer systems.
Intriguingly there’s also the promise of mod support being added via mod.io, but this details of this will emerge as they get closer to launching the feature.
