Gran Turismo Sport has been delisted from the PlayStation Store ahead of the racing game’s server shutdown at the end of this month. While the removal of online functionality was expected, and game currency had already been removed from sale, pulling the game from the PS Store has been done without formal notice notice from Sony or Polyphony Digital.

Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi has labelled Gran Turismo 7 a “success”.
Sony hasn’t revealed hard sales figures for the PS4 and PS5 racing game following its release in March 2022.
Asked about the absence of publicly available sales or player data during a roundtable interview attended by GTPlanet, series creator Yamauchi said user engagement has been strong since the title’s launch.
“[Gran Turismo 7] has been a success, and we have been able to maintain a really high number of active users throughout the release,” he claimed. “That’s something very unique to Gran Turismo that other titles have not been able to see.”
Yamauchi also said that last month’s release of the game’s Spec II update, which was billed as its largest to date, drove a significant rise in player numbers.
“When we released the Spec II update, the number of active users jumped up to double of what it was before that. I’ve heard in the video game industry that is quite rare.”
The update introduced new cars, the Lake Louise snow circuit, and fresh challenges and events on all platforms.
It also added a four-player split-screen Couch Mode, and Quick Race with Sophy (AI driver agent) integration, both of which are available exclusively on PS5.
While Gran Turismo 7 has Metascores of 87 (PS5) and 82 (PS4), it also has Sony’s lowest user score ever (2.3) on the review aggregation site, having initially faced strong criticism over its use of microtransactions and endured a rocky launch that included significant server issues.
The Gran Turismo franchise launched in 1997 and had topped 90 million sales as of November 2022, according to Sony.
Last December, Yamauchi said that a PC version of Gran Turismo 7 wasn’t in development, although he hadn’t ruled out releasing one at some point.
