Sonic Frontiers Sequel is in Development – Rumour

Three brand-new Sonic the Hedgehog-themed LEGO sets have been revealed, and are slated to be released later this August. Sega and LEGO previously collaborated to produce a few Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO sets in 2022, which were quite successful. This partnership continued in 2023 when five new Sonic LEGO sets were launched, which featured Sonic, Tails, and Amy. The momentum is continuing in 2024, with Sega and LEGO collaborating again on the production of three new sets.

KeokeN Interactive ofDeliver Us the Moon andDeliver Us Mars fame has announced layoffs for its entire team. It follows the developer revealing prototypes for five projects last month, seeking publishing deals for the same to no success.

It's been a fascinating journey for the developers behind indie game studio Evening Star. Much of the crew got their humble starts working together on Sonic the Hedgehog fan games. Their work was so highly regarded that they would eventually be recruited by Sega to develop Sonic Mania, a throwback to the franchise's 2D heyday that would go on to become the highest rated Sonic game in over 25 years.

Google Play recently decided to pay tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog on social media. Reasonable, given that the famous mascot is currently having a bit of a cultural moment. The only problem? Most of it was completely wrong.

Treyarch, one of the developers behind the Call of Duty games, is drawing some criticism online after a job posting on its careers page possibly hinted at the studio moving towards using AI-generated art in its games. While the job posting does not specifically state that the artist is being sought out for work in the Call of Duty franchise, Treyarch has been exclusively developing games from that franchise for more than 15 years.

Nintendo has still yet to unveil the successor to the Switch, but the Japanese company’s next-gen console continues to be the subject of rumours and leaks. A new report published by Spanish outlet Vandal has now also allegedly revealed new details on the upcoming console.

Rumblings of a follow-up to SEGA's Sonic Frontiers are currently doing the rounds. Referred to simply as Sonic Frontiers 2, a couple of known leakers have said the project is currently in development.

Sonic 3's producer, Toby Ascher, has confirmed that the movie will "take a lot" from Sonic Adventure 2, something that has been hinted at several times since it was announced.

Ubisoft has release Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora update 3.2, bringing with it a 40 FPS performance mode for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A potential downside to the update on PC is the removal of AMD FSR 3 support, while Ubisoft work to fix artifacting issues with FSR 3 Frame Generation.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora came and went without making too much of a mark for a great many people who played it, but developer Massive Entertainment has continued to put out new patches for the open world title since its launch in December, with another one now having gone live in the form of Title Update 3.2.

One of the former voice actors of Shadow the Hedgehog, Jason Griffith, gave his opinion on casting Keanu Reeves for Shadow in the upcoming third Sonic the Hedgehog film. After several rumors and theories, it has finally been confirmed that Keanu Reeves will be playing Shadow the Hedgehog in the upcoming Sonic 3 movie. The cast of Sonic 3 is already filled with notable actors like Ben Schwartz and Idris Elba as Sonic and Knuckles, with Reeves as Shadow having been a widely lauded choice for Sonic's edgy rival. Before this reveal, there were a number of rumors that said Shadow would be played by one of his previous actors, Jason Griffith.

Sonic Frontiers 2 is reportedly currently in development at SEGA with the gameplay being a sequel to 2022's Frontiers gameplay-wise.
