AI is coming to YouTube in a big way. Later this year, the Google-owned video platform will start testing an experimental new feature for Shorts creators, allowing them to use AI to generate video or photos for video backgrounds, the company said at its annual Made on YouTube event.

September games you might have missed

A lot of video games come out every month, and it’s only picking up as we approach October, which is particularly packed. If you gave the September game release calendar a thwap with the ol’ broom, a few huge AAA-tier games would likely drop to the ground like anvils this month. Games like Starfield, the new DLC for Pokémon Scarletand Violet, Mortal Kombat 1, Payday 3, and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty kick up a cloud that overshadows the arrival of smaller games — potentially great ones, even, from developers you might’ve heard of and new indie creators alike. Like, some that may actually end up on your GOTY list.

Former BioWare manager wishes Dragon Age had kept a 'PC-centric' and 'modding-driven' identity like Neverwinter Nights

The future of Dragon Age feels particularly unclear right now. Information on the sequel Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is still sparse and BioWare recently laid off over 50 employees, including the writer of Dragon Age's most beloved character. Given how bleak that all seems, I'm plenty happy to imagine an alternate universe future for the series as shared by its former studio lead, who wishes BioWare had kept a more «PC-centric, Neverwinter-like identity» for Dragon Age.

AirportSim Hands-On Preview: An Informative, Extremely Buggy Good Time

Amid an avalanche of quirky simulators that ask us to do everything from drive bus routes to powerwash dirty grills in the backyard, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised to discover the upcoming AirportSim just straight up had me work a job at an airport. And yet, this seemingly benign 9-5 shift put me through a whole host of emotions, from wondering if I’d been tricked into doing someone else’s work to laughing hysterically when everything went horribly wrong. Although this early look at a game that’s still not finished sometimes made me wonder if it was tragically broken in the worst kind of way, it also provided more than a few moments where the clouds parted to reveal a potentially awesome new sim game. After more than a dozen hours sorting luggage and scraping jetways against the sides of commercial planes, I can honestly say I learned a lot about airports – namely that I should never be allowed to work at one.

PAX West Preview: Long Gone Days: A Sniper's Tale Unveiled

I was equipped with a sniper rifle and positioned high above a courtyard. Enemies began bursting from behind cover and scattering across the area. I easily picked them off one by one but instinctively panicked when two of them burst into the room I was hiding in. If I've learned anything from video games, it's that sniper rifles don't work well from up close. But to my surprise, Long Gone Days isn't just a pixel-based sniper simulator. It's also a turn-based combat game with different weapons, abilities, and items. It's a lot more than what it appears on the surface.

Star Trek’s hysterical retro shorts need to become a real show

Star Trek does not have a long history of being funny, but it has its moments. The original series’ “The Trouble with Tribbles” saw Gene Roddenberry’s social commentary take a light-hearted swerve, and future generations were more than happy to dip back in (see: DS9’s “Trials and Tribble-ations.”) Thanks to the godly powers of Q, The Next Generation crew found a reason to dress up in Robin Hood attire for the delightful romp “Qpid.” Lower Decks was born from the obvious potential of Trek stories being able to poke fun at themselves while sprinkling in the catnip of Easter eggs.
