According to the latest rumors, Frank Woods, a classic character from theCall of Duty series, may appear in the next Black Ops title as a playable operator. Frank Woods played major roles throughout the Call of Duty: Black Ops series narratives, and players may get the chance to control him in multiplayer in a future release.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops titles are famous in the franchise for maintaining a sense of narrative experimentation, visiting time periods and settings that aren't as commonly explored in Call of Duty titles. The original Black Ops game visited the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion, as well as the Vietnam War. Series developer Treyarch also used the Black Ops series to further expand the now-standard Call of Duty Zombies gameplay. Cut content from the Black Ops titles revealed all manner of experiments and other potential gameplay innovations.
Now it looks like the next Call of Duty: Black Ops game may try to capitalize on players' affection for some of the game's recurring characters. According to Call of Duty-focused social media account CharlieIntel, data miners have uncovered hints that Frank Woods, one of the best Call of Duty campaign characters, will appear as a playable operator in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (or whatever the game's final title turns out to be).
The tweet from CharlieIntel revealed that Frank Woods may be unlocked as a pre-order bonus for Black Ops 6, but didn't specify which references or files found by data miners indicated the character's status as a pre-order bonus. With Microsoft gearing up to potentially reveal Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 soon, it's likely that the company has already determined what bonuses it intends to use to sweeten the deal for prospective customers.
Woods has many fans thanks to his long history with the series, and he even appeared as a revived Archetype in Black Ops 4, long after his presumed death of old age. But the passage of time in the Black Ops timeline would ensure that Woods would be too old to take an active combat role in Black Ops 6, even if it takes place during the 1991 Gulf War as is rumored. Including Woods as a pre-order bonus character for use in multiplayer would be the more logical choice, as they could show «Uncle Frank» off in his prime, rather than as the decrepit old man he ended up as in Black Ops 2.
Call of Duty: Black Ops is a series of Call of Duty games developed by Treyarch. The series began in 2008 with Call of Duty: World at War, which acted as a prologue to the series, and there have been a further five games since.
Along with the change in development studios, the Black Ops series also differentiates itself from the other Call of Duty games by having a separate timeline, different weapons, and covert
