When most people think of video games, they likely think of stealing cars in GTA, or a little plumber eating mushrooms that make him grow. Video games have been about a lot more than that for a long time, though. Sometimes, all we want a video game to do is let us live in a reality different from our own. That reality can be as close to real life as you like through a series like The Sims, or you can experience what it's like to build and run your very own theme park, something RollerCoaster Tycoon fans have been doing for the past 25 years.
There are now several games in which you can create your own park and try to make it a success, including quite a few more installments of RollerCoaster Tycoon. However, if you want to celebrate the very first installment in the long-running series, booting it back up for the first time in years isn't the only way you can do so. Atari has launched a 25th anniversary merch line which includes a lot of stuff, and all of it is available now.
The best way to rep your favorite video games outside of playing them and then talking about them incessantly whether the other people in the conversation want to hear about it or not is via t-shirts, of course. Wear something from the new RollerCoaster Tycoon collection and not only will you look great, but other fans of the series will be able to pick you out. There are seven t-shirt designs available, one of which has been made to look like a tour tee with park names on the back, and my personal favorites which feature iconic quotes from parkgoers.
The collection also includes hoodies, caps, mouse mats, and even a couple of more unique items such as a RollerCoaster Tycoon water bottle and a fanny pack, both of which feature the game's special 25th-anniversary logo. Prices of the items vary quite a bit but are reasonably priced. All seven T-shirts are $28 each, for example. If you want to splash out to celebrate RollerCoaster Tycoon's birthday, the marquee product in the collection is a limited edition shadowbox. The shadowbox features the original game's cover art and is signed by its creator Chris Sawyer, but there are only 350 available.
The artwork for the original RollerCoaster Tycoon has been turned into this 25th-anniversary shadowbox. Only 350 of them have been made and each of them is numbered and has been signed by the original game's creator, Chris Sawyer.
If you like the sound of carefully piecing together your own zoo as much as you have been doing with theme parks for the past 25 years in RollerCoaster Tycoon, there are now a lot more ways to play Planet Zoo. The console edition of the zoo builder launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X this week, and you can check out our review to see if it holds a candle to the PC
