Sony Interactive Entertainment and Team Ninja have released a new episode in Rise of the Ronin’s behind-the-scenes video series. Titled “The Cause” this latest entry puts the game’s dynamic story in focus.
The video highlight’s the bonds the player character can forge with others and how those bonds can impact the game’s overall narrative. The player has agency in forging bonds with different characters depending on what their aims are and those choices will determine how other characters and their factions perceive you. Aligning with Taka Murayama, for example, might draw the ire of anti-Shogunate characters such as Kogoro Katsura.
The intention is for the game’s web of relationships to provide enough twists and turns to make Rise of the Ronin replayable not just in terms of gameplay but also as a means of experiencing different sides of the story.
Another interesting aspect of the video is the reveal of Twin Blade, a female character close to the protagonist who ends up separated from them early on in the game but looks to play an important role in the game’s narrative.
Rise of the Ronin arrives exclusively on the PlayStation 5 on March 22.
