Science Saru has proven itself to be one of the most innovative studios working in anime today, having taken on projects everywhere from the surreal and elastic worlds of Masaaki Yuasa, to the graphic-novel inspired feel of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and the galaxy of Star Wars: Visions. For their newest original series, the studio is turning to the world of the paranormal, with a quirky romcom set to arrive on the scene just in time for Halloween.
Combining lighthearted school romance with paranormal action-comedy, Dan Da Dan is set to be an eclectic mix of genres that only a studio like Science Saru can conjure up. Crunchyroll describes the premise of the show as follows:
This is a story about Momo, a high school girl who comes from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult fanatic. After Momo rescues Okarun from being bullied, they begin talking. However, an argument ensues between them since Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens exist, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts exist. To prove to each other what they believe in is real, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital where a UFO has been spotted and Okarun goes to a tunnel rumored to be haunted. To their surprise, they each encounter overwhelming paranormal activities that transcend comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to overcome these new dangers! Their fateful love begins as well!? The story of the occult battle and adolescence starts!
Dan Da Dan is the latest series from Science Saru, a studio known for its striking visual style as well as its balance of original content with high-profile adaptations like Scott Pilgrim and Star Wars. The character designs are being handled by Naoyuki Onda (of Psycho-Pass: The Movie), in addition to a separate designer role designated just for the fantastical beasts and monsters the heroes encounter, designed by Yoshimichi Kameda (ofMob Psycho 100).
The confirmed Japanese voice cast stars Shion Wakayama (of Lycoris Recoil) and Natsuki Hanae (of Demon Slayer), along with additional roles and cameos from One Piece voice stars Mayumi Tanaka (voice of Monkey D. Luffy) and Kazuya Nakai (voice of Roronoa Zoro).
In addition to the release announcements, a new trailer has come up to accompany the project, building off of the steady stream of visuals and teasers for the series. For fans of anime romcom and the paranormal, this Halloween season is already shaping up to have some early hype.

A new video gives a brief new look at Super Nintendo World's upcoming Donkey Kong Country-themed expansion. The theme park first opened as a part of Universal Studios Japan, first in 2020 as a soft opening and later a grand opening in 2021. The Super Nintendo World theme park has a number of Super Mario Bros. related items and attractions, including a restaurant, rides, and even photo opportunities with characters like Princess Peach. Shortly after the park's grand opening in Japan, Nintendo announced an expansion would be coming to the park that will open later in 2024.
Square Enix has launched a brand-new pet goods brand known as SQEX PETS, with a few products from the initial line-up being revealed. It’s been a fantastic couple of years for fighting games, and SNK is aiming to keep the run rolling with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. While not specifically announced for any platforms just yet, it’s probably safe to assume this will release on PS5, as that’s where the bulk of the fighting game community’s audience plays.
