Nintendo won’t be attending Gamescom 2024

Research firm Newzoo has revealed what it claims were the top-grossing console and PC games in the first quarter of 2024.

A new version of one of the rarest games of all time is coming to theNintendo Switch and it should hopefully appeal to retro fans and newcomers alike. Nintendo enthusiasts will undoubtedly remember a time when the company used to host the Nintendo World Championship, a tournament that saw competitors taking on a variety of different games based on popular releases to show off their skills with a controller. The Game Pak for the Nintendo World Championship 1990 event is considered the rarest NES game of all time but fortunately, a new version is on the way for Switch.

With all the top-selling titles over the past three months in the US there’s been one constant – the PS5. Circana analyst/executive director Matt Piscatella confirmed that it topped console charts in unit and dollar sales for March 2024 and the first quarter. The Nintendo Switch ranked second in unit sales, while the Xbox Series X/S claimed second place in dollar sales.

Nintendo is said to have pushed the launch of its next-generation console, with reports from earlier this year claiming that the successor to the Nintendo Switch would be released in early 2025. Little is known about the Nintendo Switch 2, but the console will likely retain the hybrid design of its predecessor and is expected to come with a larger screen. Now, new details about Nintendo's upcoming console have reportedly surfaced.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's long-awaited remake is only a little under a month away, which means Nintendo has started releasing more and more information about the title and what we can expect. Being a remake of a beloved and classic title, there are a lot of questions surrounding what Nintendo will keep or remove from the original. For example, it was recently discovered that the game will make Vivian trans across all versions, something which was cut from the English and German versions of the original.

Shadow of the Ninja Reborn will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam on August 29, publisher Natsume Atari and developer Tengo Project announced. It will support English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese language options.

Previews for the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake seemingly confirm that Vivian will be canonically trans in the English release, something that was controversially removed from the original game.

There's still a chance for the Nintendo Switch 2 to launch this year. Exactly two months ago, the Japanese publication Nikkei wrote that March 2025 was the most likely release window for the new console as it allowed Nintendo to produce enough consoles to sell to consumers.

A pair of Nintendo 64 racing games are now available for members. Players can put rubber to the road in the futuristic racing game Extreme-G or roll out with Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls.

Single-player life simulation game Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game will launch digitally for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam this fall, publisher Private Division and developer Weta Workshop announced. It will support English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Turkish, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese language options.
