Nintendo Reportedly Demoed Switch Successor To Devs At Gamescom

The Nintendo Switch is long past the traditional lifespan for a console and its technological limitations are rendering it unable to stand up to current generation systems for new games. Titles such as have struggled in making versions that can run on the outdated system, and Nintendo itself appears to be focusing heavily on remakes and remasters. As beloved as the Switch has been, and with as popular of a console as it continues to be, the next system will need to include many impressive features if it hopes to see similar numbers in sales.

The Nintendo Switch successor rumors have been growing with each week that passes. The reason is that The Big N is being “mum” on things, and it’s annoying gamers because they want to know what they can expect next year from this new system and when it’s coming out. As a result, the rumors have said all kinds of things about the next console, including that it could be on the level of the PS4 or possibly even the PS5! There were even talks about a potential launch title from Square Enix. Today, another log was put onto that blazing bonfire.

Nintendo reportedly briefed Activision Blizzard on plans for its next-gen console late last year.

Recently, X (formerly Twitter) has been abuzz with the speculations that a Nintendo Direct was coming for close to a week now with the term “Nintendo Direct” trending multiple days in a row. That Nintendo Direct came this morning and we’ve got the biggest highlights ready to share with you!

Following many rumors that Princess Peach was going to be getting her own Nintendo Switch game, was officially announced with a release date during today’s Nintendo Direct. The monarch of the Mushroom Kingdom will be taking on Grape and the Sour Bunch using a myriad of different abilities to save the day.

Just when we thought all was over, Nintendo surprised fans right at the end of its newest Direct to announce that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is being remastered for the Nintendo Switch. 

All nine Picross e games released on the 3DS are being given a new lease of life on Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo is in an unusual territory. Their Nintendo Switch is in its seventh year of being supported, with no official signs of what’s to come. That has a lot of consumers wondering just when the Nintendo company will be making their grand reveal of the successor console platform. However, a slew of reports surfaced shortly after Gamescom stated that select individuals were given a behind-closed-doors look at the new hardware with examples of the gameplay experience players could expect.

Nintendo reportedly showcased the Switch 2 behind closed doors at Gamescom last month. As per Eurogamer, select game developers got an early peek at the Switch successor, alongside tech demos highlighting its improved performance. One such demo is described to have shown an improved version of 2017's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, targeting a higher framerate and resolution when compared to the original's 30fps. That said, it's unclear whether the game will be re-released for the new console, which is eyeing a launch in the second half of 2024. Back in August, Nintendo also sent development kits to certain studios for testing, with a promise of a portable mode.

Very little is currently known about the Nintendo Switch 2 console, but if the rumors circulating can be believed, it will be quite a step forward from its predecessor, as it will reportedly come with ray tracing capabilities.
