Nightingale’s Early Access launch day is just around the corner, and plans for numerous updates come with it. During multiple stress test sessions and hands-on previews, Inflexion Games has gathered community feedback and organized it into a comprehensive plan for key changes before Nightingale’s launch.
Initially highlighted throughout their Developer Updates videos, another official written list of pre-launch updates went live on February 16, 2024, detailing exactly what they have in store for the game’s release.
The list, published by Inflexion Games, describes changes coming to Nightingale before its Early Access release on February 20. Below are some of the highlights from the list:
The first part of the list is various HUD changes. These primarily include extending the hotbar, changing status bar presentation, and a HUD fading effect after no activity. The notes also highlight miscellaneous changes regarding equipped items not appearing in your inventory, dragging and dropping items to and from your hotbar, and crafting recipe changes, among other UI updates.
Inflexion also mentions controller support, as initially confirmed in their update videos, confirming that the game has partial controller support but will require some keyboard and mouse input. Aside from this, most of the game is playable with a controller, with plans to implement full controller support in the future. Similarly, Nightingale is playable on Steam Deck but is currently considered an unofficial platform until they receive verification.
Throughout Nightingale’s Early Access period, we’ll continue to see more updates regarding bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. According to Nightingale’s Steam page, it’ll stay in Early Access for anywhere from nine months to a year. It’ll get numerous content additions and bug fixes during this time until it’s ready for launch.

Nightingale is a game of fascinating contradictions. While I’m still early on in the Early Access version of this co-op survival crafting game, it’s already jumping wildly between intriguing and confusing, aesthetically pleasing and outright ugly, intuitive and obtuse. It does a lot right, and I can see the potential of building a life from the ground up in this mysterious land – but it also does a lot wrong, particularly with how much time and effort it takes to make meaningful progress. I have a lot more to play before I put a score on this review, but so far I can’t quite tell if Nightingale's rough spots will eventually become part of its charm or hold its otherwise interesting ideas back.
