Live-Action Legend Of Zelda Film Announced By Nintendo

Nintendo has officially confirmed that it's working on a live-action movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda alongside Venom producer Avi Arad and Maze Runner director Wes Ball.

Following the incredibly successful release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie earlier this year, it seemed like a no-brainer that Nintendo would expand more of its properties into movies at some point in the future. The game that's been rumoured the most over the past few months to be getting an adaptation is The Legend of Zelda and, while some details about the upcoming movie were wrong, it looks like there was at least some truth to it all.

It's not surprising at all to learn that Nintendo is interested in making more movies based on its games as The Super Mario Bros. Movie cleared more than $1 billion during its theatrical run. That's a lot of coins.

Over on the Nintendo Japan's official Japanese Twitter account, Shigeru Miyamoto took over to share a message and reveal that The Legend of Zelda is getting a live-action movie, one that's been in pre-development for "many years". Miyamoto also revealed that Avi Arad of Venom and Into the Spider-Verse fame is going to be acting as a producer on the movie.

Miyamoto said, "This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it."

The surprising news was elaborated on further by a press release that was shared by Nintendo. The press release reconfirms that a live-action film of The Legend of Zelda is now being developed with Miyamoto and Avi Arad acting as producers, but also reveals that the movie si going to be directed by Wes Ball, who is best known for his work on the Maze Runner movies and who is also directing the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Finally, the press release reveals that the film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc, with more than 50 percent of the movie financed by Nintendo itself. Although Nintendo is footing most of the movie's bill, Sony is going to be in charge of distributing the movie in theatres worldwide.

That's all we know about the movie so far, but it seems that it's going to be some time until we hear anything more about it as Miyamoto even said that it's going to "take some time until its completion". Everyone who has been wishing for an Avengers-esque Super Smash Bros. movie has at least a little more copium to feed off of now, at least.
