Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth just released early this year, but it seems the next entry in what was previously known as the “Yakuza” series is already in full swing. As spotted by Gematsu, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced auditions for the next Like a Dragon game during their latest video update. We don’t know the title of the next Like a Dragon yet, but series director Masayoshi Yokoyama did provide some clarification, saying Like a Dragon: Kiwami 3 (a remake of the third entry in the series) isn’t the next thing on the docket, although it is quite likely to happen someday.
"It's interesting, a new work. It's strange for me to say that, but it's probably better to deny it properly since it's been written so much, but it's not 'Kiwami 3.’ I'll just say that I think I'll do Kiwami 3 at some point. I'm sure I'll do it someday."

So, what will the next Like a Dragon game be? In recent years, the core entries in the series have become turn-based RPGs, although RGG Studio hasn’t given up on action-based titles either. Typically they intersperse the RPGs with more traditional beat ‘em up fare like the Judgment games and 2023’s Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. If I had to guess, I’d say the next thing is another "Gaiden" action title, since we just got an RPG this year, but I guess we’ll see.
Haven’t been keeping up with the Like a Dragon franchise? Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is definitely worth your time, as Wccftech’s Kai Tatsumoto spelled out in his full review…
“Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth serves as the real bridge, joining the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series into one cohesive experience. It’s the perfect sendoff for Kiryu and a passing of the torch to the plucky Ichiban Kasuga. In a lot of ways, Infinite Wealth builds upon the past with callbacks that series fans could appreciate. It’s a Japanese RPG experience that could only best be described as Ryu ga Gotoku Studio’s Metal Gear Solid 4 moment.”
