The season finale of Doona! began with glimpses of the entire storyline. However, it was clear by the end of the K-drama that Doo-na and Won-jun go in their separate directions in life. While Won-jun moves out of the apartment to focus on his studies, Doo-na returns to the K-pop scene, this time as a soloist. Even though Doo-na wants to fight for the relationship, Won-jun decides it’s best for him to move away from her.
After four years, Jin-ju meets Won-jun and informs him that she’d stayed in touch with Doo-na, who is all set to release her new album. The friends reunite for one last time at the shared house. But, Doo-na is nowhere to be found. After updating his friends about him getting settled in life, he returns to the house to find his jacket when he sees her.
She confronts Won-jun for breaking up with her and asks him to apologize for the same. Won-jun expresses regret at his actions. Fast forward to a few years later, Won-jun is among the top scorers for a National Civil Servant examination. Meanwhile, Doo-na becomes more popular. As the years go by, the two go on to lead their own lives.
The final scene of Doona! features Doo-na in Japan for an event where a huge crowd welcomes her. Meanwhile, Won-jun is also in the same place and crosses paths with Doo-na, but they don’t see each other. While Doo-na turns back, and for a brief moment, it looks like she catches a glimpse of Won-jun, but that remains unclear. He, however, keeps walking forward, indicating that he’s moved on in life.
The drama ends on a bittersweet note and reminds viewers of what Doo-na first said – that she and Won-jun belong to two different universes. The series, however, leaves it all open-ended, and it is unclear whether they both get together after being successful in their respective fields. On the other hand, they have memories with each other that will last a lifetime.
All episodes of Doona! are currently streaming on Netflix.
