Before you can get any Secret Notes in, they are going to need to obtain a Magnifying Glass. This can only happen in the winter, so those who are in other seasons will need to wait a bit before they can trigger this encounter. During winter, you will need to walk from your farm to the bus stop anywhere between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. When they do, a shadow creature named Krobus will be frightened and run off.
This triggers a cutscene and adds "" to your journal. You then need to follow the shadow being's footsteps to the Playground, where you'll find them in a nearby bush you can interact with. This should cause the shadow being to appear again, who will apologize for stealing and give the player the Magnifying Glass in before disappearing again.
After this encounter, you can start finding Secret Notes, which are random drops from events where some have a better chance of dropping a Note in than others. For example, defeating monsters, breaking meteorites, stumps, logs, and boulders, and harvesting giant crops have the best chance of producing a Secret Note.
When a player performs an action that could result in a Secret Note, the game generates a random number between 1 and 25. If you have not yet received the Note that corresponds with the first, second, or third number generated, the action will produce that Note. If they have all three, then a Note will not spawn. This means it will be random whether a player receives Note 20 at any specific time.
Once you receive a Secret Note, you need to select it from the top row of your Inventory and right-click on it, the same way they would select a consumable item. This adds the Note to your collection and allows you to read over it. It will then always appear in the Secret Notes Collection tab on the player menu in .
