Horizon Forbidden West is one of the best-looking games on consoles, period – a statement that now extends to PC thanks to this port from Nixxes, the Sony-owned studio responsible for the recent PC ports of PlayStation games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. While this is a cross-generation game, the PS5 is where it pushes the fidelity needle most, so that’s what we’ll be using for the main console comparison. Compared to the PS5, this PC port loses none of the quality and, depending on the machine, can even exceed it. It also comes with one big and welcome improvement – Nixxes has added real-time render options via a transparent menu, a genius touch that aids PC market’s desire to fiddle, offering immediate and, most importantly, visual changes to the games rendering.

Horizon Forbidden West has had an extremely strong debut on PC, as the second entry in the series by Guerrilla Games sold quite well in the US during its release week.
As reported by Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana Mat Piscatella on X/Twitter, Aloy's second adventure was among the ten best-selling games in the US during the week ending March 23rd, after being absent from the top 100 best-selling games in the previous week.

2024 is set to be an incredible year for former PlayStation exclusives launching on PC, as we can be sure that Ghost of Tsushima, launching next month, will be as successful as Guerrilla's game, if not even more. Hopefully, the port will be just as solid, as Nixxes has done an excellent job with the Horizon Forbidden West port, as highlighted by Alessio.
Despite the vast and highly detailed open world featured in Horizon Forbidden West, stuttering is nearly non-existent, and powerful rigs can focus on turning on all the graphics settings without worrying too much about performance. Personally, with my RTX 4090 GPU, I went with a combination of DLSS Frame Generation and DLAA to achieve maximum visual fidelity while keeping an average of over 70 frames per second (and consistent frame times) at 4K with maxed settings.
