Gigabyte has unveiled new «Metal Gear Plus ITX» mini PCs, which feature AMD's «Hawk Point» processors. The new mini PCs from Gigabyte will be available in three different configurations, and seasoned PC builders will be able to customize their chosen variant.
Gigabyte is a major computer hardware manufacturer and a board partner for both Nvidia and AMD. Gigabyte's products range from value-oriented offerings for new PC builders to high-end motherboards and GPUs from Gigabyte's AORUS brand. The company continues to compete with other Taiwan-based manufacturers, thanks to a wide range of powerful PC components with aesthetically pleasing designs.
As reported by Videocardz.com, Gigabyte unveiled its new Metal Gear Plus ITX mini PCs in China, which do not have an affiliation with Konami's Metal Gear franchise. Enclosed in a CNC aluminum chassis, each mini PC is powered by an AMD Ryzen 8000G Hawk Point processor and an AORUS B560I ITX motherboard, which comes with 16 GB of XPG D300 DDR5 memory and 512 GB to 1 TB of NVMe M.2 storage. The Ryzen APU is cooled by a low-profile CPU cooler inside the 3-liter PC chassis. Users are able to unscrew panels on the chassis to open the PC and replace the motherboard, APU, CPU cooler, memory, and storage if desired. Unlike other mini PCs, Gigabyte's Metal Gear Plus ITX appears to cater to PC builders, and users will be able to purchase one of Gigabyte's new mini PCs with either a Ryzen 5 8500G, Ryzen 5 8600G, or Ryzen 7 8700G APU installed.
Thanks to the Hawk Point processors, users wanting to play the latest PC games can leverage the power of Radeon 700M integrated GPUs, which are based on the RDNA3 architecture used in Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs. The power supply for Metal Gear Plus ITX mini PCs is external, with Gigabyte opting for the use of AC to DC connectors for a DC-ATX 180W power supply. This may be a drawback for some users, since the connectors can't be used with standard power supplies typically used in gaming PCs.
In China, those wanting a new Gigabyte mini PC can expect to purchase one starting at around 3999 to 4499 Chinese RMB ($611 to $693) for the Ryzen 5 8500G variant. The Ryzen 5 8600G Metal Gear Plus ITX PC will cost 4269 to 4799 RMB ($660 to $740), and the Ryzen 7 8700G variant will be the most expensive one, at around 5259 to 5899 RMB ($811 to $909). It's worth noting that pricing has not been finalized for regions outside of China, and a release date has not been announced.
