Moon Studios may be known for its hit Metroidvania games, but its new action RPG, No Rest for the Wicked, is now available in early access, and former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra believes its "bold direction" is what the genre needs to "stay relevant."
No Rest for the Wicked is quite a departure from Ori and the Blind Forest and its sequel, and boasts some noticeable Diablo-esque vibes. But, despite previously being the president of Diablo's developer Blizzard Entertainment, Ybarra clearly thinks that it and others in the genre could learn a few things from Moon Studios' newest release.
"No Rest for the Wicked (launched today in Steam Early Access) is taking on a bold direction – mixing classic ARPG with a Soulslike flavor," Ybarra writes on Twitter. "It's, in my opinion, exactly where the ARPG genre needs to go to stay relevant. Long way to go still for the team, but a big congrats to [Moon Studios] on the direction of No Rest for the Wicked! I can't wait to see where this goes from here."

As laid out in No Rest for the Wicked's Steam description, the devs' goal was to "reinvent the genre," so there's no doubt that Ybarra's praise here is a big deal, and is sure to be encouraging for Moon Studios.
No Rest for the Wicked certainly brings a lot into the mix that Moon Studios' previous games didn't. In our No Rest for the Wicked preview with the ARPG last month, we said that beyond the clear Diablo and Dark Souls vibes, "there are flashes of everything from Elden Ring to Nier: Automata, Baldur's Gate 3, and even The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom here too."
One of the things setting No Rest for the Wicked apart from the ARPG crowd might be the fact that it's got "a very different level design" that's "much more Metroidvania" than most games in the genre, according to production and technical director Gennadiy Korol. "It's much more of creating these shortcuts, creating these interconnected moments, [and] having something that you can really get lost in in a good way," Korol previously explained.
Despite Ybarra's praise, at the time of writing, No Rest for the Wicked is sitting with a 'Mixed' rating on Steam, with some reporting performance issues and sharing complaints surrounding the gear durability system, amongst other things. It remains to be seen if these issues will be addressed, but given that it's only just launched into early access, players can definitely expect

Wow, remember Starfield? I do, just about, although any interest in it feels like a distant dream now. But not to Todd Howard! The Bethesboss had a chat with Kinda Funny and confirmed that Shattered Space, the first big DLC for the brave little space RPG that could, has a release window of "in the fall". Shattered Space adds new locations and stories and gear, and is the sort of DLC that was announced before the game came out, and you got it bundled with some of the super mega hyper awesome pre-order editions (you can still get it bundled with the Starfield Premium Edition if you want to spend an extra 30 quid).
Apple is finally taking some strict action on apps that claim to use AI technology to generate nude images of people who have not given their consent. Apple has removed at least three AI nude image generator apps who offered services like face swaps or ‘undressing' where AI was used to remove clothes in images of people. These deepfake apps gained popularity through Instagram ads. While Meta was quick to take down the ads redirecting users to download such apps, Apple took a while to respond. It was only after a report by 404 Media that Apple took steps.
As great as it is to see the 3D Fallout games enjoying another moment in the sun following the popularity of Prime Video’s excellent TV adaptation, the games I most want to direct new fans toward are the classic original Fallout and Fallout 2. Aside from being where it all began, those are the stories that hold many of the answers people coming off of the show are looking for: the origins of Shady Sands, the Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, what happens when a vault’s water chip fails, and much more. Their stories, scenarios, and memorable moments have stuck with those of us who played them for decades, and bringing those same experiences to an entirely new audience that’s ravenous for Fallout content seems like a slam dunk.
Blizzard is currently seeking job applicants for multiple high-level positions related to the creation of an unspecified, unannounced game. The job postings don't reveal much at all about what Blizzard's next big project might be, but the fact that the company is hiring shows that it has something new in the works for its fans.
Armadillos, the grumpy pistachio nuts of the animal kingdom, have been added to Minecraft in a recent mob update. You can brush them to harvest "scutes", the boney armour plating of the animal's back, which you can then use to craft armour for pet wolves. Speaking of wolves, this update also sees an explosion in canine diversity, with eight varieties of the wolf now appearing across different biomes. Awoooooo!
An independent UK developer says it’s been forced to announce and postpone its game on the same day, and lay off more than half of its staff, due to the sharp downturn in investment in the games industry.
When it launches in just over a month, F1 24 will bring with it a significant overhaul to the series’ physics and handling. Codemasters says that every year, granted, but this year they really mean it with a big year-on-year update that introduces new suspension kinematics, revamps the tyre model, adds rake to the aero model, puts more ERS control in the hands of the player, and more.
Metaphor: ReFantazio, the new RPG by the team behind Persona 5 among other RPGs, officially has a release date. In a special showcase streamed Monday, Atlus revealed that Metaphor will be out October 11, putting it squarely in the holidays.
In what is a frankly unbelievable move, Bandai Namco has managed to secure iconic — and heavily memed — 2000 trance track 'Sandstorm' for its new Sand Land trailer. Honestly, it fits quite well, but we're still in disbelief that the marketing team actually went and got this done. We can only assume that Darude, the original DJ behind Sandstorm, is a massive, diehard fan of the manga and anime property. A dream come true, we're sure.
Cities: Skylines 2 is still having a very rough time, to the point where every player who bought the recent Beach Properties DLC will soon be offered compensation, and its devs are delaying the Bridges and Ports Expansion as well as the console release of the base game.
