Sales of Sony's PlayStation 5 have crossed 50 million units, the Japanese electronics giant said, pointing to "strong momentum" this year for its flagship gaming console. The PS5 was launched in November 2020, with the world in the grip of the Covid pandemic, and its sales initially suffered because of widespread supply chain problems and a global chip shortage.

Square Enix has revealed the schedule for the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival of 2024, taking place in Tokyo. The event will be available for live-streaming for those unable to attend the event in person.

In truth, while this trailer is delivered as a kind of crash course on the game, there’s really not a whole lot to learn. Essentially, it’s a tag-team arena brawler where you need to attack to build your Cursed Energy Gauge, which subsequently allows you to deploy special moves – including some deadly joint attacks.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3, is officially dead. A statement on the official website simply reads: «After more than two decades of E3, each one bigger than the last, the time has come to say goodbye. Thanks for the memories.»

Honkai: Star Rail only launched on PS5 a few months ago, but the game’s approaching its first anniversary on all platforms. And next year, the Trailblazer will arrive on an entirely new planet, Penacony, as the main plot picks up pace again. For those of you who don’t play this turnbased RPG, it’s a single player live service that’s constantly adding new story content with each update.

Announced and released in the space of a week, the free God of War Ragnarok DLC Valhalla is out now on PS5, PS4. It'll be delivered via an update to the base game; you don't need to search the PS Store for it. Set aside roughly 8GB for the base game patch, and then you'll download the rogue-like mode on top.

God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is an unfortunate amalgamation of Norse words. However, the incoming free DLC (out today, 12th December) looks like a delicious second helping for fans of Sony Santa Monica's most recent release. We learned that Valhalla would serve as an epilogue to Kratos's story, and now we have a trailer showing it in randomly generated action.

If you're considering taking a trip to Japan in the coming months and have strong and unresolved feelings about the fate of characters from across Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's Yakuza / Like a Dragon franchises, then boy, do we have the cultural event for Kir-you. Beware of SPOILERS below.

SEGA says it hopes to display an “edginess and rebellious mindset” when it revives five classic franchises in the near-future. The legendary Japanese publisher confirmed at The Game Awards that it’s working on new versions of Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Shinobi, and Streets of Rage – an effort enabled by the ongoing success and growth of the Yakuza, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Persona franchises.

As promised, GTA Online players have unfinished business with Yusuf Amir, and the Chop Shop update is out today on PlayStation platforms. It introduces the aforementioned illicit business, a variety of new vehicles, and additional Drift Races, an excellent way to kill some time while we wait for the release of GTA 6 (coming in 2025).
