Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is shaping up to be a pretty emotional game, as fans of the original will know that there are some proper tear-jerking scenes set to appear. Most of the speculation rightly surrounds the fate of Aerith and whether she'll get skewered by Sephiroth, but there are plenty of other highly emotional scenes in the run-up to that iconic moment.
In fact, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth creative director Tetsuya Nomura recently explained in an interview with Game Informer that he is very keen on players getting to a certain moment in Corel Prison, one that involves Barret and Dyne that makes him "truly want to cry" every time. Director Naoki Hamaguchi follows up Nomura's comments by saying that he considers this particular moment one of the game's "most wonderful scenes".
...It's imperative that we depict the characters much more deeply and go into more depth in approaching them. Not only Aerith's arc for Rebirth, but other characters like Dyne, for example, I really wanted to show in a more detailed way for Rebirth. There's a scene where I truly want to cry when I see it.
Fans of the original game will more than likely know which scene Nomura is referring to, as Dyne is the biological father of Marlene and former best friend of Barret. He believes Dyne died after a Shinra attack on his village, but finds out he's actually alive and reunites with him in a pretty emotional scene at Corel Prison, which is more than likely the one that Nomura is referring to.
Nomura goes on to explain that more minor and overlooked characters such as Dyne will be "depicted in more detail" in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, mostly in an attempt to go a lot more in-depth into the character we know and love. Barret's reunion with Dyne will no doubt tug at the heart strings of fans once again, especially if the developers hoose to flesh out their relationship a bit more before getting to that dramatic scene in Corel Prison.
Barret won't be the only character we'll be getting emotional over though, as Hamaguchi recently explained in a different interview that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will make us "truly feel bad" for main villain Sephiroth. Those who have played the original game will know that the man has a pretty horrid past and some tragic moments in the game, so it'll be interesting to see how much worse the devs make it for the One-Winged Angel in the remake.
