The next free Epic Games Store games have been officially revealed with one major surprise in store for MOBA fans. Joining Epic’s ever-growing catalogue of free-to-claim titles is Predecessor which will arrive on the platform next week on December 7th.
Developed by Omeda Studios, it bears a striking resemblance to 2016’s Paragon. Long after Epic Games shut down its once promising League of Legends rival, the game has now been revived and renamed with a new development team at the helm.
Predecessor has completely reworked and updated Paragon from the ground up while maintaining its action-heavy third person core. Two teams clash to control the game’s map which is made up of three lanes, each one guarded by towers that will shred players if they come too close. By guiding AI-controlled grunts, hunting enemy players, and seeking power-ups within the “jungle” between lanes, teams are locked in a tense tug of war.
Although Predecessor has been available on Steam and the Epic Games Store since the beginning of 2022, the title has undergone constant updates in early access. This latest promotion (which eschews the £7.19) price tag should hopefully inject a fresh wave of players to experience some of that Paragon-fuelled MOBA magic.
Despite its impressive visuals and intuitive gameplay, the game was originally shuttered by Epic in 2018, having failed to attract a big enough audience. While Epic are no strangers to throwing money at big projects (5 years after launching the EGS, it’s reportedly yet to turn a profit) no one can blame them for pivoting fully towards Fortnite following its initial runaway success.
Whether Predecessor will last as long as its… predecessor is unclear. However, it’s been a fascinating project to watch come alive and one that has us wishing other game publishers would be more forthcoming in handing the keys to long dead, online-only games to passionate teams of fan developers.

Fortnite developer Epic Games has claimed victory over Google in its antitrust case.
It wasn't long ago that Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney had to announce a significant reduction in the company's workforce, firing 16% of the employees (around 830 in total). The news caught everyone by surprise, as the company's pockets had been filled by loads of revenue generated by Fortnite as well as the increasingly successful Unreal Engine licensing program.

I'm pretty sure that survival MMO The Day Before had one chance, and it's blown it. The game - which has been marred by repeated controversy despite spending months at the very top echelons of the Steam wishlist charts - launched into early access today, and players are already documenting repeated serious bugs.

It’s been a little time since we heard about free-to-play racer KartRider: Drift, but just like Overwatch 2 and LE SSERAFIM recently, publisher Nexon is calling upon the power of k-pop to put the release back in the limelight. And it’s not short-changing players with Kep1er or ALICE here: it’s bringing out the big guns, with a BLACKPINK crossover that’s sure to have a positive impact on the game’s active player base.
A new Final Fantasy XVI patch will be deployed at the end of next week, but you shouldn't be hoping it includes anything even remotely substantial: it's just going to make an adjustment to the way scores are calculated in Arcade Mode. The PS5 update will be available for download on 8th December 2023, adding a new leaderboard for all your performance scores and retiring the old one.
A small research group recently examined the performance of 25 AI 'people', using two large language models created by OpenAI, in an online Turing test. None of the AI bots ultimately passed the test, but all the GPT 3.5 ones were so bad that a chatbot from the mid-1960s was nearly twice as successful as passing off as a human. Mostly because real people didn't believe it was really AI.
