EVE Vanguard's fist test, First Strike, has come and gone, and CCP Games has revealed some interesting tidbits from the test, including the fact that over 100 thousand Vanguard clones were killed by other Vanguards.
EVE Vanguard is the new FPS module under development by EVE Online developer CCP Games, and its First Strike test saw players drop planetside to help sow corruption in New Eden during the first of what will be many tests on the road to launch. To celebrate the test, CCP Games revealed some interesting data from the test, which was open to any EVE account with a premium subscription, including the fact that Vanguard players, like normal EVE Online players, really like to shoot each other.
<p dir=«ltr» lang=«en» xml:lang=«en»>We had a great time sharing EVE Vanguard with you through the First Strike event. To put a bow on it before the holidays, we've got a few more stats to share!#Tweetfleet #EVEOnline pic.twitter.com/yxOX2LQeiYIt seems out of the 136,879 Vanguard deaths, over 104 thousand of those were due to other players (I was among that number many, many times, by the way). 900 of those Vanguard player deaths came at the hands of friendly fire.
Other information revealed by the infographic is that 359,736 Clones were created in Vanguard, though it should be noted that this doesn't mean over 300K individual players took part in the test. Those clones teamed up with 17,564 squads forming to take on the challenges in First Strike together.
Given that the initial test was an extraction shooter play mode, the successful extraction number is rather low it feels, only 15,747. Contracts that are acquired planetside helped to sow corruption in EVE Online Havoc's insurgency zones were completed over 12 thousand times, and over 9 million units of Biomass were harvested from dead enemies.
It was a fun test, and while short, it gives a glimpse into the future the EVE Online developer is planning with the shooter. No exact date has been given, but the next Vanguard test looks planned for January 2024, so it'll be interesting to see what shape this next test takes — and whether or not we'll see improvements and additions to the experience like more weapon types to test and a new gameplay loop while planetside.

The Finals, the newest competitive FPS on the block, has gotten lots of praise for its gunplay and movement, but its carousel of physics objects and dynamic destruction is what truly sets it apart from the pack. Under its sweaty game modes and leaderboard chasing is the spirit and toolset of an immersive sim, and nowhere is that more evident than the recent rise of the Goo Gun.

The YouTube algorithm is a truly wretched piece of tech, but just as a broken clock is right twice a day, sometimes YouTube will cough up an absolute gold mine. I would confidently describe the hundreds of Elden Ring videos on veganiele's channel, which I randomly found earlier this week, as one such gold mine. This brave Tarnished has been beating Malenia, renowned as the RPG's hardest boss, with every melee weapon in the game, without taking a single hit and often fighting at level one, for over a year straight.
