Epic Games Store users can now claim Super Meat Boy Forever until February 29 at 10 am CT, at which time it will rotate out and be replaced with Aerial_Knight's Never Yield. Interestingly, the Epic Games Store selection this week was supposed to be three Fallout games instead of Super Meat Boy Forever, but it was changed shortly after the announcement. It is said that the Fallout games will still be coming to EGS this year, just not right now.
In the meantime, Super Meat Boy Forever is an action-adventure auto-runner where the protagonist is always running. Players will be able to perform various actions, such as jumps, slides, and punches, as they continuously challenge the game's many levels and boss fights. In fact, it's entirely possible to beat the game a few times without seeing the same level, as the team behind the game designed over 5000 of them for the game. Interestingly, Epic Games Store's addition of Super Meat Boy Forever also lines up gameplay-wise with Aerial_Knight's Never Yield.
Epic Games Store's free game for February 29 is Aerial_Knight's Never Yield. Players take on the role of Wally, a character on a mission to recover what was taken from him, exposing the truth in the process. The game is a 3D side-scrolling game, but one that plays very much like a classic endless runner game. Like Super Meat Boy Forever, players can run, jump, and perform similar actions that set up combinations and confront challenges. The game's runtime is about that of an action movie, according to the dev, and can be beaten in just about two hours. However, like any classic endless runner, the challenge of the game is improving and getting that top score.
Unfortunately, EGS users who are not necessarily into endless running games may not have much interest in these games over the next two weeks. While EGS usually does a great job of highlighting smaller titles like this, it can sometimes be less appealing to audiences given that this is a super-specific genre. It could still perhaps be a good time to leave the comfort zone and check out either game, as neither really takes up a whole lot of time.
If not interested, the silver lining is found in the Epic Games Store's free weekly game giveaway pattern. Fans will know on February 29 on March 7, and while that could be anything, perhaps it will appeal to fans that these two games don't. That's the beauty of gaming; there's something out there for everyone.
