It is now being reported that multiple Elder Scrolls "spin-off" proposals were turned down by Bethesda, missing the chance to expand the franchise while the developer worked on other IPs like Fallout and the recently released Starfield.
The news comes from Chris Avellone, the veteran game designer who worked as Chief Creative Officer and writer on Fallout: New Vegas, the one spin-off Bethesda did approve. Avellone, one of the founders of Obsidian Entertainment, has revealed that while he was still at the company, he pitched ideas to develop spin-offs similar to that game for the Elder Scrolls series, but the idea was rejected by the firm. Avellone has confirmed the authenticity of this news, claiming that Bethesda had no interest in creating an Elder Scrolls title resembling FNV.
This is true. One of the Elder Scrolls proposals (which I pitched) was intended to serve the same function as FNV did between F3 and F4, to provide more adventures in the setting during the years before the next Bethesda release. https://t.co/7yJNkn8cUY

Avellone hasn't stated a reason behind the rejection of the proposal, and we probably won't know about it since Bethesda tends to keep this kind of stuff in-house. Avellone further expanded on the idea, claiming he desired a mechanism similar to what Call of Duty had going with Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and later Sledgehammer Games. He believed involving Obsidian Entertainment and Bethesda would seem like a "less rushed" approach, but the pitch didn't gain much traction. The idea is even less likely to be implemented now since the existence of The Elder Scrolls Online makes it even less appealing in terms of bridging the gap between new installments made by Bethesda (such as the upcoming The Elder Scrolls VI, now in early development).
Avellone believes Bethesda wasn't influenced by the release of Fallout: New Vegas, maybe since the game did have multiple issues at launch, mostly due to bugs and performance issues. There was also the famous episode where Obsidian didn't receive any bonuses as they were tied to reaching an average Metacritic of 85, but the game stopped at 84.
However, Fallout: New Vegas became a cult classic in the following years, to the point where it is now considered among the best installments in the franchise and one of the most remarkable roleplaying games ever made. Modders are still actively working on it, and there have been rumors of a sequel now that both Obsidian and Bethesda are under Microsoft's wing.
As for Chris Avellone, the man was accused of misconduct and sexual harassment in June 2020, leading to various studios cutting ties with him. However, the case was eventually resolved in his favor earlier

The Elder Scrolls Online has an optional subscription called ESO Plus that gives you access to every DLC (not including Chapters), an infinite crafting bag, and boons such as boosted XP. There are also monthly freebies, often furniture items like statues, but Zenimax has just introduced an exclusive paid item for ESO Plus members only.

Long-time players of The Elder Scrolls series will need no introduction to Daggerfall, the second entry in Bethesda’s fantasy franchise. However, if you have never played this absolute classic – albeit wholly retro-looking – RPG, now’s the perfect time.
More than 27 years after debuting on MS-DOS, Bethesda's beloved Daggerfall action RPG has received its own remaster from one devoted fan who has spent almost a decade on the project.
I greet news of the completion of a Unity remaster for The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall with equal parts excitement and horror. Excitement because I have never played Daggerfall and it is one of the weirder, more fantastical Elder Scrolls RPGs - the one with multiple endings which sequels have explained away as somehow all being canon thanks to a metaphysical event called a Dragon Break, whereby timelines branch and reconnect. And horror because I have never played Daggerfall, which is said to be 62,0000 square miles in size, and I'm getting to that point in life where I seriously ask myself whether I can finish certain games before I perish.
Blue Eye Samurai co-creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green have confirmed they have plans for multiple seasons and a spin-off of the hit Netflix series.
After 9 years in development, Daggerfall Unity has finally gone 1.0, bringing the impressive fanmade remaster of the classic Elder Scrolls game into its "post-release community support and maintenance" phase.
George R.R. Martin has updated fans on the slate of upcoming Game of Thrones spin-offs – while revealing that a previously-announced project would now be making the jump from live action to animation.
is almost assuredly going to be a marquee release when it eventually comes out, and the wait for it may be grueling, but another upcoming fantasy RPG may ease the suspense: . The last game in Bethesda's iconic series,, has proved to be perennially popular, and has become notorious for how many times it's been re-released. Its follow-up,, was perhaps prematurely announced, and is still not expected for many more years. While there aren't any games that scratch the exact same itch as a Bethesda RPG, Obsidian Entertainment's is poised to fill an adjacent niche.
There is no doubt that series is massively successful, with five main games and a handful of smaller and online additions to the family. However, recently it has been revealed that there were almost spin-offs that would have bridged the gap between the main games. Upon hearing the news, many were understandably disappointed that this had never happened, and it got others dreaming of what could have been.
There are several characters in that are worth their own spin-off title in the series. The popular RPG by Larian Studios features a compelling story and part of that narrative value stems from the complexity of the characters that are presented throughout the campaign. These include the companions in , as well as several friendly – and even unfriendly – NPCs that players may encounter during their journeys along the Sword Coast. While there are a lot of interactable NPCs that do not have much to offer players, especially the citizens of the city in Act 3, several others are carefully developed over time.
