A hidden detail in the DLC for has probably passed by unnoticed by most players looking forward to the upcoming content. The first fully-fledged expansion to FromSoftware’s award-winning open-world RPG is arriving this Summer and with it comes a load of of new content, which includes an entirely new location called the Land of Shadow, opponents, weapons, and, of course, boss fights. Several weird enemies in ’s DLC were showcased in the trailer, but there is one detail in the video that players may have missed.
One of the confirmed new enemies for the expansion is a currently unnamed Fire Cage opponent. This gargantuan creature seems to be about the size of the Trolls from the base game, though with a body that resembles a brazier with active flame. In a new post made on the official account on X, however, a hidden detail about this opponent can be clearly seen.
While it would seem natural to assume that the flames from this creature would come from wood, it seems like that is not the only fuel that keeps its fire alive. As seen in the creatures' arms and legs, there are charred human bodies sticking out from the gaps of the brazier-like structure.
The human bodies within the arms and legs of this upcoming creature in seem to be reaching out as if they were trying to escape their flaming doom. This detail has likely been there the whole time but, given the cuts in the edited trailer and how swiftly the fire cage opponent moves in that video, it was difficult to see at the time. Now, with a static image and a closer look at the creature’s characteristics in the DLC, it is possible to notice that it consumes humans.
“The inclusion of bodies into the design of the brazier opponent in ’s DLC adds more backstory to that enemy.”
The new image also seems to reveal another piece of information about the new DLC creature. As seen in the post, the fire cage enemy seems to be escorted by a knight on a horse and at least another walking nearby. If this is how these enemy groups will form, there is a chance this brazier-like opponent will not be a boss, but simply a stronger opponent within that team – much like the Trolls that pull caravans, who are not bosses, per si, but are stronger than those that escort them in the base version of.
Although subtle, the charred humans trying to escape the fire opponent’s body in the DLC are but a confirmation of FromSoftware’s continued attention to detail, especially when it comes to character design. An older example of this is ’s Winter Lanterns. While their heads seem like a simple mass of flesh and eyes, there is more to it – in fact, this flesh is composed of dead Messengers. Now, the inclusion of bodies into the design of the brazier opponent in ’s DLC adds more
