Actor Dwayne Johnson has reflected on not happening in James Gunn’s DC Universe.
In October 2022, the DCEU movie Black Adam was released, a superhero movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Teth-Adam. This movie teased more of the DCEU, with the mid-credits scene featuring Henry Cavill’s return as Superman promising a face-off between the characters.
However, with James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooting DC and recasting the role of Superman, Black Adam 2 will not be moving forward. Johnson recently commented on the decision to discontinue his iteration of the character.
“You have people coming in who creatively, fiscally make decisions that you may not agree with. So I think Black Adam was one of those movies that got caught in that web of new leadership,” Johnson says.
“Like, wait a second,” he continues. “You have the biggest opening of your career. Sure, no China; that could have been $100-200 million more. You’re establishing a new superhero, you want to grow out the franchise, you bring back Superman and Henry Cavill, the world went crazy…we created a diverse superhero portfolio where we had men and women of color…You know what it is? It’s like new ownership coming in, buying an NFL team, and going ‘alright, not my head coach and not my quarterback. Doesn’t matter how many times you won the Super Bowl, doesn’t matter how many rings you got, I’m going with somebody else.'”

The 2022 movie is 2 hours and 5 minutes long.
“In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam was bestowed the almighty powers of the gods,” reads the synopsis. “After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam. Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Black Adam has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.”

Remember the Delta Force games? It's okay if you don't: It was a reasonably popular shooter series that debuted in the late 1990s, but the last addition to the lineup, Delta Force: Xtreme 2, came out back in 2009, and wasn't very good. The last we heard from it was in 2016, when THQ Nordic picked up developer NovaLogic and all its games. Seven years later, Delta Force is finally making a comeback, with a brand-new game being developed by Tencent subsidiary TiMi Studio Group.
The characters in what we might term the Aperture Cinematic Universe are a memorable bunch (as I have said before). Though GLaDOS rightfully tops the list another, introduced in 2011's sequel spectacular Portal 2, became an instant favourite. Voiced by J.K. Simmons, doing a turn adjacent to his J. J. Jameson from Spider-Man, Cave Johnson is the founder of Aperture Science (which used to primarily make shower curtains before it evolved into being a death trap puzzle company), and he made an instant impression. And though Aperture Desk Job is nominally a tech demo for the Steam Deck, it also expands the Cave Johnson lore in a very satisfying way. Spoilers beyond for Aperture Desk Job, and Portal 2 if you haven't played it.
director Ángel Manuel Soto has called it a relief to be a part of James Gunn’s DC Universe.
The Toxic Avenger isn’t the superhero the world wants, but it may be (once again) the superhero the world needs. For the past two decades, American movie theaters have been overtaken by an exponentially exhausting and sterile battle between Marvel and DC. But The Toxic Avenger offers an alternative, filled with humor, violence, and bad taste. As famously pitched ahead of the film’s flop of a release in 1984, “He was 98 pounds of solid nerd until he became… The Toxic Avenger, the first superhuman-hero from New Jersey.”
The 20th anniversary of Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy has brought the movie back into theaters, in a newly refurbished and remastered 4K version that’s launched plenty of online write-ups on the movie’s historical and cinematic value. Those pieces certainly aren’t wrong — the film’s 2003 release was a watershed moment for Korean cinema in the international market, and its stunningly grim and bloody one-take battle, with the protagonist fighting his way through a hallway jam-packed with mooks, has inspired endless copycats and homages, from The Raid: Redemption to Netflix’s Daredevil to The Princess and all the way up to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto has outlined how Jaime Reyes could fit into James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC cinematic universe.
In a recent interview with Total Film, director Angel Manuel Soto explained why DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran refrained themselves from getting too involved in the production of the upcoming superhero movie. He revealed that Gunn and Safran decided to let him and his team have creative freedom over Blue Beetle’s story because they were happy with what they were doing.
The Blue Beetle director has revealed James Gunn's reaction to the final cut of the new DC movie – and how much say he had.
