Starting on April 19, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Warzone are getting a new double XP event. While the start date of the double XP event for Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone is known, the developers have not yet confirmed when the double XP will end.
For any CoD player, the importance of Double XP events cannot be understated. As the name suggests, double XP offers a way to quickly level up Modern Warfare 3 weapons, Operators, overall XP and Battle Passes. Notably, however, these bonuses are not always linear, nor is the focus of the event always the same.
As CharlieIntel reports in a Twitter post, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 andCall of Duty: Warzone will have a double XP event that starts on April 19 at 10 am PT. For PlayStation players, however, the double XP event started 24 hours earlier, due to their exclusive benefits that tie into the end of Modern Warfare 3's live ops season.
As previously mentioned, the end date of the current double XP event is not yet confirmed. However, looking at the rate of Season 3 MW3 and Warzone updates, it seems likely it will end before April 23, which is when players can expect the next patch of Season 3. One thing to note is that the previous Modern Warfare 3 Season 3 patch nerf was applied to a new weapon, so carefully choosing which weapons to focus on and level during this event is paramount. Also, as a warning to inexperienced players, stacking double XP bonuses with XP Tokens is not possible during the Double XP event.
Furthermore, fans have reported numerous XP bugs during the previous Double XP events, none of which were mentioned as fixed in the recent Modern Warfare 3 Season 3 April update. During the Double XP Weekend in early March, the difference in overall Rank XP bonuses and weapons bonuses was clearly felt in Modern Warfare 3. Additionally, the Zombies game mode is known to suffer from the same issues, as a fan by the username TacticalUniverse reported on Reddit: «Honestly seems like someone hit .2x instead of 2x for zombies.»
On the side of Warzone, the double XP Warzone bug first appeared in 2020 and has persisted into 2024 while making an appearance at least once every year since. Since being dubbed as a false Double XP event, fans have created many theories as to why Activision would be doing this, but the real answer remains unclear.
