Paradox Interactive and developer The Chinese Room have revealed the Brujah, the first of four playable vampiric clans that will feature within Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. See them in action here:
As revealed last week, you’ll play as a character named Phyre in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, but while they come with a name (and have been a vampire since the 17th century,, you’ll be able to decide a lot about their path through the vampire-infested nightlife of Seattle. In particular, players will pick everything about Phyre from gender, clan, the blood diet, behaviours, and outfits.
The Brujah are described as being a rather misjudged group, coming across as punks who are looking for trouble. That manifests itself in a brutal melee style that rewards players you leap into the fray, grab enemies, drag them and body slam them into walls. A full description of their abilities in combat will be released in early 2024.
Here’s some descriptive blurb:
“Brujah is the learned clan, the clan of radicals, the clan commonly misjudged as punks looking for trouble, the Brujah are guided by passion and dedication to an ideal. And if they have the supernatural strength to back that passion up, who are you to argue? Rebellion unites their blood, whether that rebellion is of the subtle lend me your ears kind or the fists out, fire in the streets sack of Rome kind is down to the individual.”
Another playable clan will be revealed next week.
If you get a sense of deja vu from the Brujah being announced, that’s because they were back in 2019 through the game’s original development arc. Back then the game was in the hand of Seattle-based Hardsuit Labs, but with a troubled production, delays, and senior departures, the game was almost completely canned. Instead, Paradox sought a new development partner.
It was back in September when Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was re-revealed following years of delay and issues. The re-reveal confirmed that The Chinese Room had taken over development duties. The pitch and story for Bloodlines 2 has now shifted compared to the originally revealed version of the game. Still set in Seattle, there’s a three-way power struggle for power in the Vampire Court, and in an intriguing shift, Phyre is an Elder Vampire, which sounds like a gateway to unleashing plenty of fun vampire powers on hapless lesser beings.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, expected to release in late 2024.
