Blizzard has announced that Samwise Didier is leaving the studio after having worked there for 32 years. Didier took to social media platform X to announce that he is retiring after a storied career having worked as art director on influential titles like StarCraft and Diablo, among other games.
In his statement, Didier talks about having worked with Blizzard since all the way back in 1991, and all of the things he learned during his time with the studio. During his stint with Blizzard, Didier learned how to use Photoshop, and how to make UIs and various buttons needed for game development. He goes on to talk about learning how to create 3D models as well.
Just about every Blizzard game released since the studio was originally known as Silicon & Synapse has featured work by Didier, including older titles like The Lost Vikings and Blackthorne. More recently, Didier’s works were part of the development in recent Blizzard titles like Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2.
