A recent Baldur's Gate 3 update has seemingly made the Faith-Leap Trial puzzle even more annoying to complete. That section of the game has already given the Baldur's Gate 3 fandom quite a bit of trouble even before this change.
The puzzle itself can be found in the Baldur's Gate 3 Gauntlet of Shar, which players will visit during the game's second act. Among many other challenges, this location contains four Sharran Trials, unique rooms that task players with recovering an Umbral Gem by engaging with the game's mechanics in unusual ways. One section that many fans found particularly difficult to complete is the Faith-Leap Trial, which tasks players with traversing an invisible bridge going over an abyss. The problem is that the bridge itself isn't exactly straight, but fairly convoluted.
The developers did originally implement a few ways to make the Baldur's Gate 3 Faith-Leap Trial a bit easier to complete, allowing players to see traces of the path they ought to tread with a correct setup. However, it appears that at least one of those solutions has been removed in one of the recent patches. This was recently noted by Reddit user roadrunnrNM, who was surprised to find the Faith-Leap Trial «a lot harder than it used to be» during their latest playthrough.
Following some back-and-forth with other r/BaldursGate3 users, the player concluded that their multiple unsuccessful attempts were all caused by their party having the Pixie Blessing Condition, which counts as a light source and makes the character fall through even when following the correct path. Equipping Lathander's Light that can be obtained in Baldur's Gate 3 Act 1 is another such potential failure condition.
But this wasn't always the case, with dozens of players claiming that Lathander's Light actually helped them see the path in the Faith-Leap Trial more easily on earlier versions of the game. What's more, roadrunnrNM said they're confident they had completed the trial in the past with Pixie Blessing in effect. The change was seemingly made as part of Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6, which rolled out in mid-February 2024. The fact that the changelog attached to that update doesn't specifically mention this tweak made some fans suspect that Lathander's Light being a failure condition was an unintentional effect of the patch.
However, that may not be the case, as the game itself has always suggested that having any kind of light source in the trial room would result in failure. True enough, one of the easiest ways to pass the trial is to make sure the room is perfectly dark and then just observe the outlines that appear, ideally from the Tactician mode overhead view.
