Voice and motion capture actor Neil Newbon, known to fans of Baldur's Gate 3 as Astarion, is streaming a co-op let's play of Baldur's Gate 3 alongside friend and horror writer-director Tom de Ville. As they stream they laugh along to the game, and yeah, Newbon does The Astarion Voice a lot when he's in control of, you know, the character he played in the game.
The most interesting bit is that Newbon's definitely got some insight into how much of it was motion captured and acted—not just for his own role, either. Newbon also apparently did the motion capture for some other pieces of BG3, including the motions during the origin character creation sections. I plopped in some of those highlights as YouTube shorts below.
The other cool thing is that, in the third episode, Newbon and de Ville are joined by Amelia Tyler, the narrator voice for Baldur's Gate 3. It's a neat combination of commentary alongside gameplay with a very loose interview format of talking about game production and Tyler's experience on the production.
Tyler's no stranger to streaming herself, nor to making funny videos. We love her outtake clips from narrating BG3. Hearing her talk about the experience of making BG3 is pretty cool, as while many of the other cast members were able to meet each other while recording motion capture, Tyler's massive contribution to the game was practically unknown to much of the cast until release.
I will say that co-host de Ville has some problems with his microphone in the first installment. They're mostly gone in later ones! Worth sticking out for if you're a fan of Let's Plays.
You can find the first part of Newbon's playthrough on YouTube, though he's also streaming it on Twitch. The part featuring Amelia Tyler is Part 3 on Youtube.

The voice actors behind Baldur's Gate 3's origin characters—Astarion, Gale, Karlach, Shadowheart, Wyll, and Lae'zel—gathered for a two-episode D&D game that was livestreamed this past weekend. An hour into the first 160-minute episode, I can confidently recommend it to fans of our favorite new RPG. I don't know if I'll make get to the end of the whole session anytime soon, but it's a charming bit of fan service. Replays are available on YouTube, Twitch, and as podcasts.
Baldur's Gate 3 is excellent. Historically excellent, in fact, but it's not without its flaws. The first of these, of course, is that Astarion was not voiced with Neil Newbon's original Brummie accent, but the game's awkward inventory system is a close-run second. I don't know about you, but I probably spent at least a couple of hours of playtime standing stock-still in camp, desperately trying to give my chaotic inventory and those of my allies some semblance of organisation. It never worked.
A recent Dungeons & Dragons session hosted by High Rollers saw the voice cast of Baldur's Gate 3 superbly bring their characters to life, but the true star of the show was a baby imp called Bing Bong.
If you’ve finished Baldur’s Gate 3 and want to see even more of Astarion, Lae’zel, Karlach, Gale, Wyll, and Shadowheart interacting with each other while abiding by the laws of Dungeons and Dragons (who doesn’t?) then do we have a treat for you. The Baldur’s Gate 3 companion cast of Origin has just started their own game of DnD, and it’s as heartwarming and frantic as you’d expect.
Seeing everything there is to see in developer Larian Studios' ludicrously vast Baldur's Gate 3 is already something of an impossible task, but Astarion actor Neil Newbon has now raised the stakes even higher, claiming it features a two-hour secret section that no-one's yet found.
Baldur's Gate 3patch 3 has received a short delay and will now be released on September 22.
Voice actor Neil Newbon has revealed that Baldur's Gate 3 players have yet to discover a hidden two-hour section of the game.
Developer Larian Studios has gone to some absurd lengths to make sure that your murder sprees won't totally break Baldur's Gate 3, including a series of fully voiced NPCs almost nobody will ever meet.
A Baldur's Gate 3 actor says there's still about "two hours of content" that no one's uncovered yet, and it's apparently nearly impossible to find.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a standout title this year and continues to be enjoyed by players doing new playthroughs or jumping on the bandwagon and experiencing it for the first time. One of the best parts of the game is the companions you meet on the way, and thanks to Larian Studios, we are about to see them all in a whole new way.
The core cast of Baldur's Gate 3 will reunite for a special one-shot Dungeons & Dragons livestream this week.
