Your Childhood Imagination Isn’t the Only Thing Put to the Test in this 2D Pixelation Metroidvania Fairy Tale Story

The developers of Police Simulator have just announced their next emergency services job sim, Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator, with a high drama trailer at the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted. You'll be racing across the city responding to emergencies ranging from basic cuts to exploded gas stations, saving lives as efficiently as possible. In Ambulance Life, you're working in the fictional Pelican City on the US west coast, being dispatched to four different neighborhoods: the historic quarter, business district, and industrial zone according to Aesir Interactive.

Not many games have a story like Indika, a game about a 19th century Russian Orthodox nun journeying to the centre of her soul with an «unusual, horn-headed companion.» Drawing inspiration from Dostoevsky and Bulgakov and dripping with dark humour, Indika tells a tale of religion and authority, madness and belief. But also, not many games have a story like Indika, whose developer Odd Meter left Russia when the country invaded Ukraine in February last year. Calling the invasion an «insane crime» perpetrated to «satisfy the ambitions of an elderly, weak-minded dwarf,» game director and studio founder Dmitry Svetlow decided to up and move Indika's development—and the company behind it—out of Moscow to neighbouring Kazakhstan, even moving the «entire recording studio by truck.» And both of those stories make it, for me, one of the most fascinating games to grace this year's PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted.

Throughout our childhood we often read books about folktale stories such as The Three Little Pigs or Red Riding Hood, but how often do we hear these kinds of stories in video games? I had the chance to play and check out a game from Publisher Astragon Entertainment developed by Mi’pu’mi Games Howl a puzzle tactical strategy game that is filled with beautiful vibrant watercolor art style and storytelling. This is a game that surprised me, because of the puzzle concept that was mixed with strategy elements and with a unique art style called “Living Ink”.

Disney Lorcana's sure been interesting to follow. Aside from the big, dramatic lawsuit where the words "the legal equivalent of alchemy" were used in a courtroom, it's also picked up some pretty good steam as a competitive card game.

Christmas horror movies provide the perfect antidote to all the candy-coated festivities of the holiday season and there have been quite a few good ones in the past. We’ve had David Harbour as an axe-wielding Santa in Violent Night, Anna and the Apocalypse brought us a zombie Christmas musical, and who could forget the daddy of them all, Gremlins.
