Dungeons & Dragons is notoriously a little intimidating game, especially for someone who has never played the game before. There are excellent resources on the internet, like the DnD Beyond website and countless YouTube videos that are eager to help you start your adventure. However, it’s still one of those things that you might need to dive straight into to get you going.
The D&D Essentials Kit is perfect for this. It comes with a slimmed-down 64-page rule book containing all the essentials you will need to create characters for your adventure. That way, you have all the basics you need if you are still deciding you want to buy the player’s handbook.
Next up, it would only be an adventure with a campaign guide, and this one is Dragon of Icespire Peak. To quote the book, “This book is written for the Dungeon Master. It contains a complete Dungeons & Dragons adventure and descriptions for every creature that appears in the adventure. It also teaches you how to run a D&D game.” Thanks, D&D, I couldn’t have said it better myself.
We have some of the essentials you need to play the game from here. The first is a set of dice. Most dice sets only have seven dice, one of each shape, all of which you roll for different occasions that the game might throw at you. To make your life that much easier, the D&D Essentials Kit has given you 11, including one of each dice you would typically have, but also adding an additional D20 and three additional D6s. It’s always nice to have extra D6s, perfect for stat rolling when creating your character, and if you are anything like me, a dice goblin, the more dice, the merrier.
The box also includes 6 character sheets, a Dungeon Master’s screen to hide your rolls and keep the adventure a surprise for your players, a double-sided poster map so that players can feel immersed in the adventure, and 81 cards. The cards come as perforated sheets so that you can separate each card, and they also come with a card box to keep them safe.
Last but certainly not least, the box comes with access codes that allow you to access the content online through the DnD Beyond website and a discount code for a whopping 50% off if you

Immersive sims like Dishonored or System Shock can be very fulfilling, but they are also oddly stressful. After all, the flipside of the genre mantra of solving problems through imaginative application of the tools is that when you achieve a boring solution, that's all your fault. Did you miss the final jump while trying for a complex, third-storey infiltration in Deathloop, resulting in a sadly non-immersive firefight in the courtyard below? Did you fail to combo those magical abilities and terrain variables as the developers hoped - nay, dreamed you would, forcing you to rely on ye olde cover-shoot tactics to reach the checkpoint? Shame on you! Don't you know how much imsims cost to develop? Go back to Open-Ended Systems School and retake that course in The Power of Choice. Also, consider playing Mosa Lina instead.
If you’re done with Starfield and want to revisit Bethesda’s most longstanding RPG to date you’ll be glad to know that Skyrim is currently dirt cheap as part of a new sale. I know talk of Skyrim isn’t exactly new, but who can argue with such a good deal for a modern classic.
‘Tis the season to bust out all of your grodiest games and get to bloody work. One of October’s haunting hallmarks is Namco’s Splatterhouse series, from the 1988 arcade classic to the overlooked 2010 reboot. Don’t let one of the series’ most charming entries pass you by, though. Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti is a chibi-style take on the gore-soaked side-scroller, and it’s the perfect game to blaze through at devilishly fast speeds this Halloween.
If you’ve been hesitant to start a new class in Destiny 2 because the grind to get all their Exotics is too daunting, the Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost event is the perfect time to start. In Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost, there is a new mechanic called Eerie Engrams and Hocus Focusing, both of which make the hunt for Exotics much easier.
Netflix is planning to open brick-and-mortar locations – and both Blockbuster and Redbox have (hilariously) responded.
Down-bad Final Fantasy 14 fans are finding out the hard way that you shouldn't hit on one of the MMO's new bosses in the middle of a fight.
A new and exceptionally creepy Ursaluna fan creation is a perfect addition to any fan’s Halloween. The enormous evolution of Ursaring was first introduced in, but the new Blood Moon variant debuted as part of ’s DLC Pokédex and gave the Peat Pokémon a far scarier appearance. Now, however, one fan has vastly strengthened the Pokémon’s fearsome impact with some creative, and terrifying, changes to its design.
Playing Sky: Children of the Light’s Steam Next Fest offers something I didn’t know I needed. While the inner RPG enthusiast in me is spoiled with the depth and complexity on show in Baldur’s Gate 3 and ever-destined to return to frequent haunts like Final Fantasy 14 to pillage further through 10 years of content, the Journey creators’ chill MMO reminds me that there’s great joy in little at all.

A new Dungeons & Dragons actual play is in the works, featuring even more familiar faces from the voices and creatives of the gaming industry. Titled «Natural Six», the campaign posted the Kickstarter trailer—shown above—to their YouTube channel earlier this week (thanks, Dicebreaker). Leading the group as its DM is Harry McEntire, who is the voice of Noah from Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Doug Cockle, voice of Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher video games, is headlining a new Dungeons & Dragons actual play series called Natural Six. Announced on Monday, the 10-episode run will feature several other well known voice video game voice actors. The project is expected to go live on Kickstarter soon.
