Valve has officially confirmed that the Steam Deck is going to be receiving an OLED model on November 16, and one of the biggest improvements is that it'll have a better battery life than the previous model.
Ever since Nintendo released the Nintendo Switch OLED model and the Steam Deck came barrelling in as a handheld console rival, fans have been wondering whether Valve would follow in the Big N's footsteps and release an OLED model of its own. For a while, it's seemed like something that's not going to happen for some time but, out of nowhere, Valve has confirmed that it's happening much sooner than we all thought.
Although Valve has yet to officially comment on the Steam Deck OLED, the store page for the normal model of the console has been updated to include the OLED model and give us our first details on the upgrade. The first and most obvious difference between the OLED model and the original is the screen, which is a HDR OLED display.
That's already enough of an improvement, but one of the other things that the Steam Deck OLED improves is the battery life. According to Valve, this mode will have between 30 and 50 percent better battery life than the original Steam Deck OLED, which is pretty big considering the main complaint about the original was how often it needed to be charged.
