Pokemon GO players have voiced their disappointment with the contents of the Expert and Veteran Boxes in the game. Apparently, these in-game boxes, which are available for purchase, do not seem to justify their price in the popular opinion of Pokemon GO players.
The boxes featured in Pokemon GO are optional purchase items that help players get useful resources quickly. These boxes contain items, such as berries and balls, that help catch wild Pokemon with more convenience. A variety of boxes, offering different rewards, are available in the game that can be purchased either with in-game currency called PokeCoins or real money. Certain special boxes come with their own unique functions, such as the Mystery Box that makes the Pokemon GO-exclusive creature Meltran appear.
In a recent Reddit post that is quickly getting popular in the community, a user expressed his dissatisfaction with the Expert and Veteran Boxes currently available in the game. Apparently, these boxes are not worth paying for as they provide items that are common and are easy to obtain by simply playing the game. While the Expert Box offers 50 Ultra Balls, 50 Poke Balls, and 50 Great Balls for 550 PokeCoins, the Veteran Box provides 50 Razz Berry, 50 Pinap Berry, and 50 Nanab Berry for 750 PokeCoins.
This sentiment resonated with several other Pokemon GO players who chipped in with comments criticizing the content of the Expert and Veteran boxes. A user stated, «I have to dump some poke balls [sic] and berries often cause [sic] I keep getting too much.» Certain users suggested that Niantic may lower the supply of these Berries and PokeBalls to help the box content make more sense. One of them wrote, «Oh I’m sure soon spinning stops will produce far less [sic] balls and berries to compensate.» However, there were a few players who thought that the content available was alright, arguing that getting items like Ultra Balls were not as common for those living in areas with fewer PokeStops. This observation adds to the list of suspected ongoing changes in the game, such as the increasingly difficult-to-obtain Revives that help a Pokemon recover.
Niantic getting flak for Pokemon GO boxes isn't something new as the studio has historically been criticized for either the content inside or the price of these purchasable items. Back in November last year, many fans panned the developer for selling Veteran Boxes at a steep price. A few months before that, the players were disappointed with how the Great Storage Box didn't fulfill one of its main purposes.
With microtransactions being a controversial feature in gaming, it may be time for Niantic to rethink if Pokemon GO players are getting their money's worth with the currently available boxes.
