A Pokemon fan and talented woodworker has made a custom Squirtle Nintendo Switch dock base. The charming creation is one way of customizing a Nintendo Switch, and doesn't require any permanent alterations to a Switch or its dock, which may be appealing to some Pokemon fans.
Squirtle has remained one of the most popular Pokemon from the original Pokemon Red and Blue games. While much of this has to do with it being one of the three starter Pokemon and its cute design, the anime also played a role in boosting Squirtle's popularity. The TV anime saw protagonist Ash gradually add the traditional starters to his team, as he lost the opportunity on his first day as a trainer and ended up with Pikachu. The Squirtle premiere episode only boosted its popularity further, and to this day, fans remember the Squirtle Squad with fondness.
Now, Reddit user Albayr51, who runs The Albayr Woodshop, has revealed their Squirtle Nintendo Switch dock base. The Pokemon creation is made of wood, and is designed to act as a seat for the Switch and its dock, rather than replacing the entire unit. As a result, no harm comes to the Switch or the dock, and fans of Squirtle can give their dock a makeover.
While plenty of Nintendo Switch fans use things like Nintendo Switch skins to spruce up their dock or console, decals are generally flat. Most official limited edition Nintendo Switch designs are, as well. However, given the nature of woodworking, a side view of the Squirtle base reveals its three-dimensional design. Portions of the Squirtle's face are raised, while others are grooves, like the lines of its mouth and nose. A video shared by the creator also shows how the base was designed, cut, and assembled. Fans of the creation were curious if the Squirtle or any other Pokemon were available for sale. Albayr51 does sell these products, and takes commission requests.
Nintendo fans have been customizing their Nintendo Switch systems for as long as they've been in players' hands. Some Switch owners buy decals or products like these, while others produce their own works of art with the back of the Switch, its Joy-Cons, or the dock as the canvas. Nintendo itself offers a number of different Switch designs, usually to coincide with the release of major games like Super Smash Bros. and Animal Crossing. Whether fans are hands-on or -off, there's a way to customize a Switch that will appeal to just about everyone.
