More Sonic Toys Party gameplay footage has leaked online, giving fans a possible look at some of the stages and character costumes in the rumored mobile game. Sega had stated earlier this year that it was interested in developing titles exclusively for mobile devices. Spin-off games like Persona 5: The Phantom X and Sonic Toys Party are some of the ways that Sega is looking to expand its reach into the mobile gaming market.
Sonic Toys Party was first leaked by MbKKssTBhz5, or Midori, as a free-to-play multiplayer battle royale game modeled after Mediatonic's Fall Guys. It would support up to 32 players at one time, and would be released for iOS and Android. Midori's leaks also claimed that players would compete in obstacle courses, fight bosses, and other objectives in order to be the last player remaining. Sonic Toys Party will also supposedly feature collaborations with other Sega properties like Persona, and the rings collected in-game act as a currency to unlock new costumes and other cosmetics.
New gameplay footage of Sonic Toys Party has recently been leaked, posted by Sonic community Twitter account SoaHCity. This trailer shows off some of the stages inspired by past Sonic the Hedgehog levels, such as Chemical Plant Run and Green Hill Run. Corroborating a past Sonic Toys Party leak, the gameplay is modeled after Fall Guys, where players have to navigate stages and race to the finish before the other players, otherwise they are out of the match. The Fall Guys-inspired gameplay has been tweaked with the Sonic series' elements, such as incorporating grind rails and loops. Players sometimes not only have to race to the goal, but also face off against bosses like the Death Egg Robot from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Near the end of this leaked gameplay trailer is footage of the character customization elements. Players can equip costumes based on iconic Sonic the Hedgehog characters, including Sonic, Amy, Shadow, and Dr. Eggman. Lesser-known but still relatively popular characters like Charmy, Jet, Vector, and even Big the Cat are shown to be possible costumes as well.
When the footage was presented to notable Sega leaker Midori, who first leaked Sonic Toys Party earlier in January, she corroborated that the footage is legitimate. She also clarifies that this footage is from a more recent development build compared to the Sonic Toys Party leak presented by The Sonic Show earlier this March. The Sonic Show's video about the leaked early footage of Sonic Toys Party has since been taken down due to a copyright claim, though mirrors of the leaks still exist. Fans should still take these leaks with a grain of salt until Sega presents more official information.
