My most-anticipated open-world game looks better with each new trailer: Hyper Light Breaker shows off a fiery boss ahead of the roguelike's summer launch

Fallout hype is truly inescapable at this point, with the TV show driving popularity and Fallout 4 even getting its long-awaited next-gen update (even if the latter has been considered rather disappointing by many). One way or another, everyone is trying to live their best post-nuclear apocalypse life right now, and this enormous mod for Fallout 4 looks like it'll enable us to do just that. 

The announcement trailer for Lost Legions opens with a Roman Emperor bellowing “GIVE ME BACK MY LEGIONS” like a kid who’s just had his pudding taken away. I'd just had a big swig of coffee before watching, and was instantly swept off by visions of an apoplectic Roman bigwig rampaging through the forests of darkest Germania, gluing abducted legionnaires together into a sort of Octavian katamari... and then they revealed that it’s another open world survival game, with no less than two trailer beats dedicated to the act of hacking down a tree.

A gamer recreated Searchlight, a town found in Obsidian Entertainment's critically acclaimed Fallout: New Vegas, using the Far Cry 5 engine. The 2010 RPG and its sibling, Bethesda Game Studios' Fallout 4, have seen their respective player bases rise following the recent release of the Amazon Prime Video television adaptation.

2019's movie has been imagined as an open-world game. Considering the award-winning movie took a different approach to comic book movies, following the likes of and in its story and tone rather than following more classic comic book movie fare like the DC movies that came before it, it's the last movie anyone would expect to be adapted into a game, and yet it looks visually impressive.

This heightened interest coincides with the debut of Amazon's Fallout TV Series earlier this April, which has garnered an overwhelmingly positive reception from audiences and critics alike. This, in turn, has prompted many gamers to revisit their favorite games in the post-apocalyptic franchise, or perhaps experience them for the very first time.

The third of Xbox's multiplatform efforts on PS5, Sea of Thieves, reportedly boasts superior visuals on the Sony machine. A recent analysis comparing the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions of Sea of Thieves revealed the latter pulling ahead on the graphical front.

Star Wars Outlaws is set to launch later this year, and beyond offering an open world to explore, it's also going to allow players to step into the shoes of a scoundrel named Kay Vess. Needless to say, it's shaping up to be quite a departure from the lightsaber-swinging action we're used to from the recent Star Wars Jedi games, but the creative director of Outlaws says that the idea of having Jedi at the forefront of the game "didn't even enter the picture."
