In , getting a Legendary Dweller early on can greatly boost your growing Vault. Legendary Dwellers will come with extra stuff, like bonus outfits and weapons. This can be a big boon to new Vaults and allow you to get higher-level Dwellers faster.
Dwellers in is the backbone of your success and the key to running a successful or unsuccessful Vault. Keeping them fed, happy, and healthy will determine how well you do and what resources you have access to. For that reason, having a Legendary Dweller will provide you with many benefits, especially at the outset.
Legendary Dwellers are hard to find, but they give the player a few benefits when they are found. This includes a total of 40 SPECIAL points, usually resulting in at least one 9 in their stat line, and they also come with items that can be used on other Dwellers for their adventures in . All but one come with a special outfit, and most of them, but not all, come with a special weapon.
While only 23 Legendary Dwellers appeared in Fallout: Shelter before, various updates have added more. The total number of Legendary Dwellers is now closer to 32 and may continue to change.
But to find these Dwellers, you cannot wait for them to appear on your doorstep or hope they will come from a fruitful union in your Vault. If you want to collect every Legendary Dweller, it will come as ’s Lunchboxes. While these can be purchased similarly to a lootbox, they are also rewarded to you for various reasons, such as completing certain objectives, quests and from daily and weekly check-ins.
Legendary Dwellers are not unique, and it is entirely possible to have more than one copy of each.
Most Legendary Dwellers will only appear in these Lunchboxes, but there are four exceptions: Sarah Lyons, Three Dog, Ed the Ghoul, and Preston Garvey. All four of these Legendary Dwellers can come as rewards for various quests. Sarah Lyons can be found during In Shining Armor, which is the last stage of the overarching quest Climbing the Ranks.
You can find Preston in the final part of "" and Three Dog in the self-titled quest "" Lastly, Ed can be found in "" in the “” section.
If you collect twenty Legendary Dwellers into one Vault, which can include duplicates, you will earn the achievement “” and likely have some valuable gear. Realistically, by breeding better Dwellers, you can get much better Vault workers, as shown in Pressing X’s YouTube video, but for those who want the gear, the achievement, or the nostalgia, finding every Legendary Dweller can be a challenge worth completing in .
